Forgot how good it is July 29, 2008 For me and probably many others this was one of my first purchaces for my PS3 and as with most new toys I tend by everything I can lay my hands on in the first few weeks to feed it. I've mainly used this game to entertain guests when they are around but I've recently gone back to having a good go at the offline game to see if there are extra tracks to be found etc. It's hugely entertaining and will have you swearing at the tv the odd few times - ahem. The difficulty level is spot on. The visuals are gobsmacking.
For those old enough to remember - I found this very reminicent of Waverace 64.
I actually find it more fun to watch someone struggle not to get crushed by an AI truck driver rather than be racing against them on a split-screen. I've never found that a spilt screen can carry off the trick - even on the giant screens of today. The LAN trick with two screens is way better.
MotorStorm, please don't spend your cash on it, not worth the 19 April 5, 2008 0 out of 18 found this review helpful
The graphics really are plain not outstanding like others have said, Gameplay not up scratch (basically for this type of game t needs to be pick up and fun which it really isn't) Round it up..... buy prolog... i know it isn't a whole game but it's a whole lot better than this
A GOOD EARLY GAME March 27, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
motorstorm is a good start for an off road game for the ps3 but needs improving in a few areas. this game has good graphics and pretty good physics and controls so initially you know you have bought a good handling off road game but.... when you get to level 4 races and above things degenerate into other cars just trying to smash you up no matter if it costs them the race or not.some dubious crashes dont help for example i was travelling at 15 mph and got hit into a rock and my car exploded into a shower of bolts exactly the same as it does when im doing 100 mph, that's not good.level 4 and upwards is basically a chore and chores aren't fun. online is really good, nice and smooth but if your a casual online gamer prepare to get slaughtered,if you practice online for hours and that's your thing you will be fine. all in all the good outweighs the bad,for all the good graphics the loading times are really slow, for all the good physics the a.i. goes mental from level 4 onwards and so on and so on but its still worth a punt for 15 pounds preowned!
I don't like this one...or do I? March 26, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
There seem to be two main music tracks, one good and one that makes you cringe! The good one is a sort of rap pop...thing, without words. The bad one is...eeuurggghhhhhh! It is too bad for words! It's a sort of intense rock piece of rubbish!!! The words (or should I say the 'word') are just repeated over and over again: "kieaa, kieaa, kieaa, kiaee, mastermanteey!"
AARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGHGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Now for the actual game. Weird and awful and boring. It is weird because: girls butts stick out like pillows. It is awful because: you're bike blows up and flips over because you hit a small bump. It is boring because: it is unoriginal and nothing happens...
It's not an awful game, but it's not good either, definately not worth 19.
Until Motorstorm 2's Tropical Thrills, This Is The Best Racer On PS3. March 15, 2008 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
The recently released trailer for Motorstorm 2 made me go back and play the original again. Its easy to forget how much of an impact this game has. Visually the game is incredibly detailed, but the actual racing feels realistic.
Career modes are shunned in favour of pure racing. These are unlocked after completing the previous event. This does create a few sticking points, escpecially around the Level 4 difficulty mark. Every race is a tense affair, where a slight mistake on the final lap could cost the race. There are a limted amount of tracks, but they take a long time to master. Also the different vehicle classes open them up in completely new ways. Various downloadable packs are available on the PlayStation store, increasing the game longevity, including vehicles and tracks. A time attack download is also available for free, with an ability to post your best times online.
Its obvious what needs improving in the sequel, particularly depth and variety. But for pure racing thrills, and an early glimpse of what the PS3 is capable of, Motorstorm is essential.
