HDMI Cable V1.3 (PS3) from 4Gamers July 9, 2007 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
Bought a PS3, 4Gamers HDMI cable .etc.from Amazon, and plugged into a Sony Bravia TV and it got no signal on the TV's HDMI channel. It was OK if you reverted to the AV/SCART cable supplied with PS3.
Suspected cable so arranged for Amazon to replace it, which they did with admirable efficiency. Unfortunately this did not cure the problem either and started to suspect either the PS3 or the TV.
Contacted Playstation helpline and they talked me through various startup sequences and holding standby button until 2nd beep etc. for soft reboot, but still no fix, they then suggested trying to get access to another HDMI TV, but that was not an easy option.
On a whim noticed another manufacturers HDMI cable whilst out shopping and bought that and plugged it in and that worked fine. So returned this 2nd cable to Amazon and asked for a refund.
Have now read the Amazon customer reviews on this product and now understand why it does not work. The plastic moulding around the cable connectors is too bulky and prevents the cable being pushed fully home into the TV HDMI port which is in a recess. Others have got around this by trimming off the plastic moulding around the cable, but it is thought that this is a case of poor design and should not be necessary. Judging by other reviewers this issue seems to occur not just with Sony Bravia TV's, but also with Bush TV's as well.
My recommendation is that before buying this cable check your TV's HDMI port. If it is mounted in a recess do not buy this cable or be prepared to trim off the plastic around the cable's connector.
be careful May 24, 2007 i say be careful because the plugs on the end of the cable are quite big and i had to trim the rubber bit down a bit and kinda force it into the hmdi whole on my Bush lcd tv. This really annoyed me but its in now and staying in. Apart from that little hitch, the picture and sound qaulity is brilliant.
Best Compromise :) May 18, 2007 I wanted a decent HDMI cable for use with my PS3 and Samsung R74 LCD. However i didn't want to spend silly money either...
This cable seems to be a great compromise, and i can't fault it for the price :)
FYI - 1080p not gauranteed on your display!!! April 22, 2007 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
Just a word of warning, I got tripped up so maybe this will help others. I have a 1080p Plasma (Pioneer 436XDE) and have used a very high quality HDMI cable to watch 1080p blu-ray DVD's on the PS3. To my surprise, 1080p was not supported, so I called Pioneer. The reason (apparantly) is this - the PS3 currently does not support all plasmas at 1080p resolution - the PS3 boosts the resolution but does not offer the standard industry refresh rate of 24 fps. The PS3 outputs 30 fps at 1080p which most plasmas cannot handle so therefore I had to watch in 720p which was still excellent (I just wanted to compare and see if there was any discernible difference). I feel a patch is on its' way, but check with your display manufacturer first if you want 1080p out-of-the-box so-to-speak.
