I've read some of the reviews for the charging dock and think that, in the main, the negative ones boil down to a simple premise: that the PS3 has to remain on to charge the controller. This may appear to be redundant, particularly as the PS3 comes with a charging cable of its own that allows the use of the controller whilst still allowing the user to play games.
However, it was immediately apparent to me that I did not need to keep the PS3 on all night to charge the controller with this item - I could just plug it into one of the USB ports on my PC and charge it that way.
If there is a problem with the controller, it is that it has to be charged via USB - so rather than bad mouth this product, perhaps those who are aggrieved by it's existence should lobby Sony to develop a mains adapter for the controller?

this is just about the worst accessory for the ps3 yet. dont listen to the manufacters description it is useless. all it means is that you have to leave your ps3 on and wait for the controller to charge because you cannot use it in the dock. some people say that they like the pretty colours when it charges but who is gonna sit der and look at it while it charges! a decent accessory will charge the controller from the mains so that you can can turn off the ps3, so just wait until that comes out on the market

this is stupid why dont you just get a usb cable then plug it into the ps3 then the controller so u dnt have to spend 9 quid on a charger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

well why? just use the lead supplied. why pay to get a "dock" so it looks good? even though it doesnt! so far there is the ps3 system stacker, this and the creative zen mp3 holder in contention for pointless item

When I ordered this charging dock I was impressed by the positive ratings of others saying how cool it looked with its changing coloured glowing light and how it stored your controller neatly. Then my ps3 arrived on the same day and I realised that there is already a usb charging cable for your controller included with the ps3. That basically removes the need for this dock as the cable charges your controller while allowing you to play games at the same time. If you use the dock, then you cant use the controller at the same time so you can only charge the controller by leaving the ps3 switched on but not playing it. That is a waste of time when you can use the controller and charge at the same time with the other cable. The dock may look cool but its pointless and adds extra cables cluttering my space around the tv.
