Xbox 360 Elite Console October 27, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Had this Elite for about a month now... moved over from the PS3.Hard drive is fantastic (120GIG), more than enough room to play with for downloading game demos and movies etc from the Xbox Live Network. HDMI audio/Video output is a must nowadays, pixel perfect images almost real! The Controller (wireless) included has a nice feel to it, although it does come with 2 AA Batteries I would recommend purchasing the official Charge and play kit, will save you in the long run. Included headset is ok.. not the best quality in the world but does the job :)Another plus point regarding the 120GB Hard-drive is we are shortly due a major update on the Xbox 360 (Mid November 08), this new update will allow the installation of your games on the Hard drive... which inturn solves my biggest gripe with the xbox...NOISY DVD ROM DRIVE! so no more constant accessing from the drive!! Hooray!! - Game disc is only required once each play.... just to check you own the original.Graphics in my humble opinion are on par with the PS3, and that's a good thing... so if your thinking of jumping ship towards the Xbox from the PS3.... then do it! you wont regret it.... there is a much wider range of games and they are cheaper too, granted the PS3 network is free, the Xbox 360 network costs between 26 - 40 a year for the gold membership, but there is just so so much more with microsoft.... movies, trailers and thousands of playable demos.
Whilst on the subject of online gaming ... having previously owned the PS3 and thus able to compare the two machines, The 360's online system is far superior to Sony's effort, not so many glitches and lock-ups, and the audio/speaking feature (Headsets) is much clearer.
Well worth the purchase.

Elite console is fantastic, had mine nearly a year. Picture quality is amazing on HDMI compared to my old xbox 360. Massive strorage on the 120GB hard drive and a great looking machine. The Elite XBOX 360 is a better gaming machine then the playstation 3 and has more games and a better range of exclusive XBOX360 only games compared to the PS3
Black is the new white October 26, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is my pov on the elite, it is quiter compared to the earlier models of 360, it also kicks out a lot less heat which means i worry less about it dying on me within the next year. The noise is due to the dvd drive, it spins constantly at high speed while playing games but is a lot quieter when watching dvd's or watching/playing something on the hard drive. Come Nov 17 2008 the new dashboard update will allow you to save your games to the hard drive which will cut out the noisey dvd. The elite is a lot better looking than the white box plus 120gb hd will be soon used up when the new update comes which means those of us who own a 120gb hd will soon be moaning for a larger hd from ms. I'm very pleased with my elite and cant wait for the update. I'll never buy a white 360 again. Once you've had black, you'll never go back.
XBox 360 and Ear Defenders October 25, 2008 8 out of 15 found this review helpful
I just bought an XBox 360 Elite (in Oct 2008) and I should caution others about the noise level they make when playing a game.
I had no idea they were so loud, did they buy the fans as a job lot from scrapped airliners?
Anyway, if you don't have one I can't say I'd advise if you're at all intolerant of having lots of fan noise in the background... otherwise it's an okay experience, but that spoils it somewhat for me...
A review of the Xbox 360 rather than a rant about gaming platforms. October 17, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
As a platform, the Xbox 360 has introduced a fantastic improvement on the online gaming experience (however, games require a subscription service to be played online), provided a channel to download some great games which are too small in scope to be worth pressing to disc and it has opened up a way to bring digital media away over the network and into the living room in a way that no other non-gaming device (the PS3 is really it's only equal in this area) has managed to do so far.
However as a piece of hardaware I must say I am disappointed in the Xbox 360, it has proved to be unreliable (like many I have had to return my first one for a replacement) and poorly constructed. I had initially assumed the awful noise it makes to be some kind of overpowered cooling system kicking in because when it was designed it's processing hardware really was very advanced for being placed in such a small case. I could have understood the reason if this was the case, however it turns out that the racket it makes actually the DVD drive and it is extremely distracting and annoying if you want to play games and have your sound at a reasonably low volume.
