Best game I've ever played!!! April 25, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
By far the most enjoyable game I've ever played, period. Yes, I agree it's a little short but enjoyed every minute and can't wait for the next instalment.
Excellent gameplay, but short! April 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What an amazing game!!The ultimate FPS!!Amazing graphics, good sound and a story that ravels you in. You play as an American USMC and British SAS soldier. British accents are spot on, apart from when they call a mobile phone a cell phone!! Multiplayer deathmatches are also good but addicting!! But I definately recommend you get this game.
brilliant online but bad campaign April 18, 2008 Call of duty 4 is a very good game. although it's campaign is short and very easy (which is why it has 4 stars) it has an excellent online play.
in online it has many maps and types of games and the only downfall of online is domination, which is like a rubbish capture the flag.
if i could spend promises. April 15, 2008 For a number of weeks my mate at work as been rabbiting away about how COD 4 is the best game around, and as playing halo 3 almost constantly with the guys at work, is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, i decided to see if parstures really were greener on the call of duty side. So lets see what i found.
Single Player:
Graphics and atmosphere: This is were the game really delivers the goods and by the bucket-load. The graphics are simply the best ive seen so far they really did have my mouth hanging wide open, but its not just the graphics it the thing many games seem to forget; atmosphere. The way the game pulls you in to the experiance is amazing, somthing that i havnt really seen since operation flashpoint many many moons ago (high praise indeed).
Gameplay: Pritty good, controls are fluid and instinctual with good flow and response. As pointed out by some other reviewer there is no duck and cover system which is a bit sad, but as the focus is more pointy and aggressive i understand why it is not there.
Story and level design: The story is a bit weak, but who cares, all you need is a reason to shoot stuff, right! The levels are fantastic, each one is a little different from the others offering a slightly different aspect and approach with set pieces like the cargo ship and the sniper mission "gillies in the mist" being very worthy of note. the only trouble is its really all over way to soon, the game is woefully short.
AI: The AI is great, friendlies act exactly like you would expect in real life, again adding to the atmosphere, hell they can even shoot streight, more then once i found myself swearing at Price for stealing my kills! (tache wearing mother...) the comedy stereotypes always put a smile on my face.
Additional: Weapons variety is good they feel nice to use and respond as you would exspect with different weapons requiring different approaches to use effectively. It would have been nice if you could choose which weapons you want at the start of the level and you pritty much get access to all weapons right from the get go proved you bother checking whats lying around.
Conclusion: Overall a brilliant job on the single player campaign, exceided my expectations, just wish there was more of it. 92%
Multiplayer: for me at least this is were it all started going wrong.
it all starts out well, the pregame lobby is well layed out and easy to use, you can choose to set custom classes so you get to use the weapons that suit you best. The game is matched very quickly unlike say halo 3 which takes an age, but there is good reason for this. Unlike halo 3 the game does not match like skill levels, it just piles you all together and lets you get on with it, so new boy just becomes a stats boost for the more experienced players. The ranks are however used to unlock new weapons additional equipment can also be unlocked by persistant use of a given weapon. This would not be a problem if they were just an ego trip and didnt affect the difficulty of play. For example the instant i got the silencer for my M4, my k/d spead doubled! yes doubled, for the simple reason that i wasnt so much of a come on for the other players, this is a serious inbalance that really should never have happened. There is also a persistant delay (i dont want to call it a lag) that is always there. it would not be so noticable if you did not have the death cam which plays the bull-proverbial back as confirmation of your suspitions. But the real problem is none of these things, they could all be forgiven easilly, the real problem is at COD 4 doent really bring anything new to the multi-player party, the map are typical in size there are no vehicles no interesting additions its all very much like so many other games of this ilk, which makes it frankly a bit boring. In short its not bad but its nothing special either. 65% i think.
By now people are probably scrambling for the comment box to brandish me an idiot and say how wrong i'am as if an oppinion can every be wrong. so please dont bother because im not going to care, at the end of the day this is my personal experience of the game, if your experience is different then write your own review.
in summary: single player: 92 % Multyplayer: 65% as an overall mark i would give it 82% good but not up to the hype. i would liken it to being promised a hot date with Jessica Alba only to get Jessica Albas look-a-like, you cant really complain, but its still not what you where promised.
Best game of 2007 April 15, 2008 i'm hooked on this game. the campaign is far to sort but the best out there and the online play is mind blowing simple as that. a game you have to get if you have a 360
