HAZE DEMO REVIEW May 6, 2008 6 out of 19 found this review helpful
I don't intend to write a detailed review because who wants to read through paragraphs of drivel? I downloaded the Haze demo from PSN today, obviously over the last few months ( or longer) Haze has achieved a somewhat legendary status in its on off again ps3 exclusivity, to this day i do not know if its a timed or total exclusive for the ps3.
Ok so the game.
First and foremost graphics, I know alot of people will say surely the gameplay should be more important, however seeing as this is a nextgen platform i think myself and alot of people would expect graphics to be one of the most important elements of a game.
As it stands now the graphics on Haze really are not what i would consider acceptable (take burnout paradise for an example, graphics approaching acceptable), It has to be said this is a demo and may not represent the final product, however i have heard this all before and have seldom seen an improvement when the final version is released.
An example of the graphics, the demo starts you off i a kind of forrest, with lots of potential visuals, in reality though the trees look pixelated from quite some distance and the rocks/items lack any textural realism whatsoever. The shading of some of the objects is really quite awful, look at a fellow Mantel soldier for instance, the yellow mask and armor and just plain yellow as if someone has just used bucket fill in photoshop (hopefully another example of demo work in progress graphics)
The sound leaves much to be desired, distortion occurs in many of the samples suggesting that the studio source was exceeding 0db IE clipping, also fellow soldiers kept using the very same sound sample when they were shot. A sound sample of this quality and duration is very small as a file, theoretically they could have used tens or hundreds of different but similar sound samples to add to the realism, personally i think they just didn't consider this.
Gameplay. I'll be honest here im not the biggest fps fan, to date i have only played (on the ps3) timeshift, the orange box. I'll compare the game to timeshift because frankly there are a few similarities in its handling. The default controls are not entirely what i would choose, for instance to fire a gun is r1, personally i would have choosen r2, this is a totally minor point as i am sure one could customize it.
this is turning into a long review, i apologize for that as it was not my intention.
All in all i have to say IF Haze doesn't improve int he areas i have mentioned on release its shaping up to be a pretty ordinary fps, the nectar function is interesting but frankly as it stands now its not enough to really make me fetch my wallet.
wait till the game is released April 29, 2008 10 out of 21 found this review helpful
i think it really silly how people review games even before they're released my advice to anyone reading this is to wait till the game is released then check back to read reviews of a game that people have actually played instead of reading the words of morons who haven't played it yet.
Lame, glitchy and boring March 17, 2008 awful story awful gameplay awful AI and i was realy looking forward to this as well :(
Haze looks like the new Halo, but better! March 12, 2008 3 out of 30 found this review helpful
haze looks like the greatest game that is ever going to come out. I've already pre-ordered mine! You should too! Just by watching the trailer you will see the new generation of games on the PS3!
This games gonna ROCK!!! March 6, 2008 3 out of 25 found this review helpful
The attention seeking oddball may have been slightly off with a few of the key features of this game. Watch the preview vid to clear up any confusion!
This game promises to be a key release for PS3, hopefully adding a new angle to the whole 'doom' genre. Fingers crossed.
Yes, I agree, shame about the release date getting put back, but rather that than get an unfinished product...
CANT WAIT!!!!!
