Bully receives top grades! March 28, 2008 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
First of all let me say how happy I am to see this game receive the proper title of Bully instead of the UK's stupid Canis Canem Edit (Latin for dog eat dog)This country is far to obsessed with upsetting people that aren't even offended in the first place!
Anyway back to the review... I'd also like to say how amazed I was by the graphics, I know there are a lot of reviewers out there that shun the graphics saying they are no better than PS2... let's please remember that this is merely a PORT to the 360, they weren't going to create completely new models and textures for the entire game!
The graphics now include dynamic lighting, there are textures to the characters in which the light falls across realisticly and we also have the ultimate treat of seeing the whole game in full widescreen anti alaised high definition! Everytime I switch the game back on I'm wowed by the quality. Think GTA polished up to a shine!
The gameplay is fantastic, you can do what you want, go where you want and play pranks on students such as stuffing them in lockers or trash cans (although this is considered bullying and will get you a detention if caught!) Of course ala GTA you can also choose to play the perfect pupil and not bully students, it's all up to you!
The missions are very varied and always fun, ranging from sneaking round the girls dorm collecting panties to fireing at jocks with a spudgun to defend the geeks' fort. Buildings and people can be egged, property can be vandalised, you can steal from lockers etc. You can also run helpful errands for students and teachers and participate in classes that earn you rewards.
There's a large school campus to explore and also the huge surrounding area that contains shops and other oportunities for mishief and financial gain. There's several different American school cliques that you can join and be a part of in your enevitable rise through the social ranks of school! Of course with the variety of characters there will be a character for everyone to relate to and all of them provide that usual Rockstar tongue in cheek humour that sets these games apart from the rest!
New features include several new missions, some multiplayer mini games and four new classes to attend all of which are much more fun than the originals and involve some real brainpower at times. Leraning has never been so much fun!
So buy this game now! You won't regret it and for all this quality gaming at such a cheap price, you can't go wrong!
Fun Fun Fun March 27, 2008 I was a little bit aprehensive as i purchased this game after reading other peoples reviews regarding the game freezing....i've now had about 4 hours solid play out of the game and touch wood it has not freezed on me once...in fact i've had nothing but fun.
This game is definetely a must for any 360 owner...i spent last week playing Assasins Creed which although graphically superior was really boring in comparison to bully. Don't misunderstand me though the graphics on this game do not detract from the gameplay at all...its fantastic.
There is always something to do at Bullworth Academy, whether its attending lessons, stealing from lockers or scrapping with the local "jocks"....the missions are engaging and absorbing.
I was going to write a longer review but i want to get back to the game...a new part of the world has opened up...
well done Rockstar....can't wait for GTA.
Great fun, shame about the freezing! March 25, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a really fun game to play & like already said plays along like a GTA in a school environment.
Like GTA you'll play this & not know where your afternoon went, however be careful as this game is renowned for crashing. My experience is it only crashes once in a blue moon, but I've heard others complain of more often. You'll be about to enter a room & BANG! No option but to switch off the console & restart, so save your progress as often as you can. There is a patch (already!!, says alot!)but from what I hear it only makes the problem worse.
So the fact that it is as really enjoyable game makes me want to rate it highly, however you need to bare in mind the other side.
gta in a skool!!! March 18, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
this plays exactly like gta(rockstar obviously)you can choose whether to go to class or reak havoc.there are so many things going on its superb.
Brilliant Fun, Unfortunately its BROKEN! March 16, 2008 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
An absolute boon!
THE GOOD: First glass voice acting, Good in game music considering its in-house, enjoyable and immersive story line with an array of genuinely likeable (and unlikable!) characters, ITS FUN!
THE BAD: Barely passable graphics for the 360 (think polished ps2 turd), littered with graphical glitches, horrendous pop-up, excrutiating and frequent loading times, low juddery framerate, crashes ALOT.
Whilst I know this is a port I just cant get my head around how all the bad things mentioned above made it through playtesting (if it was tested at all?) and into the final game, did rockstar monitor any of Mad Docs work on this? When I fork out full price for a game I at least expect the damn thing to work properly, frequently saving at every oportunity for fear of it crashing isnt fun.
HOWEVER, and its a big however, as broken and glitchy as this game is, its the playability thats key here, giving the player the just "one more go" syndrome in a big way! I absolutely love this game for all the things it does right, and I urge any gamer to look past its graphics, bugs and loading times and immerse themselves in a brilliant, nostalgic, downright fun piece of gaming. Oh, and Mad Doc seriously need to improve on their grades..........
