Rockband, why lord is it so costly? June 7, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Seriously the guitar controller is so flimsy every time you switch from the top to the bottom it feels like it's going to snap. In-fact everything feels cheaply made which really makes me wonder how they can possibly charge so much for it all. All this comes from a play around my friends, but to be honest I'm not paying out for a game which has limited playability in regards to cost. It would be fine if it was priced 80-100 all in, but I personally refuse to pay the ghastly amount for the EU version as it's just not fair to charge the amount they are.
Over-priced but great fun June 6, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ultimately; yes, this piece of kit is vastly over-priced.
And frankly it's disgusting you can't buy all the pieces seperatly (if you want the mic you must fork out for guitar/drums).
BUT, if you have a bit of cash, there can be no denying that this is a great bit of kit. Natural evolution of GH, and certainly the apex of the genre.
Drums are tricky to get into, but ultimately double the longevity of the game, and if you've mastered the guitar, provide a great expansion of gameplay. Something so intrinsically satisfying!
Then, what the game was designed for - multiplayer. Choose a song 2/3/4 of you love, get someone on the mic, a couple of guitars (GH guitar can double up as a bass here) and someone on the drums and ENJOY.
You can spend HOURS on this in multiplayer and not get fed up.
Complete the set-list? No worries, get stuck in to the myriad of DLC.
Expensive, but if you have the money, well worth it.
Badly Made, Overpriced but Fun June 3, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, main point: it's fun. Very fun. I lost most of a day to this. Get three friends and you'll have a blast.
However: the pedal has already snapped on the drum control. Amazon, of course, have already replaced it, but hardly worth the money.
Ah yes, the money. Why, oh why do EA/Micro$oft insist on selling Electronics at double their true cost in the UK?
One of the most fun games June 2, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok, first of the price. I know a lot of people have been nagging about it being so expensive to buy, but in Denmark the price is near 250 which is far far too much. I got the whole set for something around 150 here on Amazon, and that saved me a lot of money. Secondly, the game and gear. The mic is good, not much to say, it catches the person singing excellent. THe drums are sturdy, allthough a lot of videos where the foot pedal breaks can be found, I think if you just take a little care, then you will be fine. The Guitar with the effects switch and the extra 5 fret buttons are of a somewhat mediocre style. It feels more plastic then you'd expect, but it plays fairly the same as the ones you recieve in Guitar Hero.
The Game is good. Its nice that you can make your own person, costumize everytrhing from hair, tattoos makeup to instruments and accessories such as rings, glovces and all such things. The presentations og your person makes you feel extra connected to the game and your avatar. The tracks are of a high standard with a little something for everybodies taste and there is a lot of extra downloads out there for a small amount of $ or Xbox live points. All in all, its now 4 days since I got the game, and I've been playing it everyday with my Girlfriend and her brother, and Im very very pleased that I got the game. Money well spent
Short review May 29, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Only a short review as i've only owned the game for a few days now, but it is brilliant! Finished the drumming solo tour on easy - which was pretty straightforward except for a few songs with some tricky sections... but looking forward to the much more testing medium and hard levels - will definitely require some practice and work :)
the game looks and plays brilliantly and have had no problems so far, have even downloaded a few songs to add to the library, though in an ideal world they would be cheaper :) about 160 credits per song or 440 for a group of 3... at the moment there are only a few albums, maybe even just one, but this will soon increase...
the drums and guitar are pretty solid - the stories of broken drums seem to be from the original American buyers who had the original model number, can't remember now think it was LQ or something.. but there have been several changes made to the manufacture to make them more solid and less likely to lose sensitivity (which is probably why Europe is having to pay double for the instruments)...
it does cost a lot, but is definitely an awesome game and certainly makes house parties fun, though if you're on a budget a price drop is probably only around the summer corner...
