4 out of 5 stars Because.   May 25, 2008

Look, people, of course it will cost more, companies have to undergo a lot of work changing the region of a disc and its a huge profit margine if they just keep it at the same price as the US. Secondly, taxes are different here as well, I'm sure different parts of America share the same issues because every state has its own taxes making it different prices everwhere. Im sure the makers dont just sit around thinking of new places to skrew europe over because its probarly a bigger market over here, why would they want to do that?

Anyway rant over onto the game, I recently played it at a games expo, it is an amazingly good game; graphics wise it look amazing and playing together with my friend, ow my god was that so cool.

It really revolutionises this industry and I own Guitar heroes as well and I can say while I think its similar, they both have their momments.

Great game.

First of all, i would like to point out that, the game is over prices over here in the U.K but there is nothing we can do about that. So indtead of saying the games no good and rating it 1* when people have not even played the game is not fair.

Luckly im not one of these people who sit there on the computer complaining about how there no going to get it, people read this area to find out if its good, not read how people say, im not getting it, its over prices compared to the U.S. At the end of the day, thats life, and there nothing we can do about it.

Anyway, i decided to get the band in the box, and i have not stoped smiling ever since the 23rd. All i can say is its Guitar Hero + Singstar + Drums = Awsomeness.

The drums are pretty much the best, they adjust to the size you want, height wise, and they have instant reply. Its hard at first but you can pick it up after a day or two, the foot pedal is another thing that hits you, on how realistic the whole thing feels. The guitar is soo much better than the Guitar Hero 3 and 2 controller, its is a lot light, and much easier to move your fingers on it. I have now been able to start hard mode thanks to the easyness of the movement on it. And then the singing is awsome, its just like singstar. On top of this, these are all availiable to play online, and also you can have a whole battle bnd with people over xbox live if some friends or family are playing locally with you.

The game itself is way better than Guitar Hero. The lay out of the keys are very sleek. And through the game there are nice little things here and there that really hit you. Like in some songs, there will be a guitar solo, and you have to use only the bottom set of buttons if you want, and dont strum to complete the solo, you also get bonus points off these. The is also a big finish, where at the end of some songs, you can either hit on drum or strum on the guitar as fast as you can to get added points, and then hit a few notes after about 10 seconds to seal the points. The soundtrack for the game is brilliant, lots of songs you will definatly know, unlike past GHs. Plus the downloads for the game are awsome, the songs on there from day one have been over 100 songs, about 5 times more than GH3 downloadable tracks from day one, with more coming every so often. But these songs are ones you will know again. With artist like Paramore, Oasis and All American Rejects.

These are only a few things that make Rock Band the game to have right now, and the Guitar Hero Killer. So ignore stupid people complaining about the price, and buy the game if you not tight, and also get the band in the box, it is well worth the money in my eyes for what you get.

Yet another example of rip-off Britain. Unfortunately publishers like Electronic Arts charge whatever they like because they can. Yes, they will trot out the usual excuses about additional localisation costs for the European market and expect us to shell out but the only way the message will get through to them is for everyone to vote with their wallets. If you're fed up being stitched up then simply don't buy it. Perhaps then the producers will get the message and realise they can no longer get away with taking the European consumer for granted.

I recieved my copy yesterday, got some mates round, set it all up and started playing. Straight away I noticed the yellow drum pad would only register if I gave it a big whack compared to a light tap for the other three pads. Second, the micrphone wouldn't work. The Xbox wouldn't even recognize it's existence. The only thing I thought worked, despite it feeling like the least sturdy of all the instruments, was the guitar but after both myself and other mates complained that way too many notes were being missed despite what we thought were well timed strums, i'm led to assume that's faulty too. Thankfully the Guitar Hero guitar works with this game, which luckily we had 2 of, and by using these we stopped missing the notes, cementing my opinion that the Rock Band guitar is rubbish.

What we were able to play of the game didn't impress myself or my mates, all of whom are Guitar Hero veterans. We felt that the individual parts are not as challenging as compared to Guitar Hero. Bass was positively easy at times regardless of difficulty level, guitars were atleast a level or two below the guitar hero equivalent (hard was like GH's medium) and the drums, whilst a new experience to start with, we all found ourselves very quickly working our way up the difficulty scale.

The game's saving grace is the feeling of fun and co-operation it gives you and the number of well known quality songs. It's certainly a game to play when you have the mates around and have had a few beers, especially if you're all rock/punk fans. On your own it's definitely less fun.

I'm being sent replacement instruments but i'm not holding my breath as, with a fairly high failure rate being reported in America, i'm fully expecting the next batch to have problems. If it is faulty i'll get a refund on Band in a Box and simply play with the Guitar Hero guitars and play the games as 'guitar hero with different songs'.

EDIT:- I've just received my replacement set of instruments and the guitar worked for 15 mins, then something went 'twang' inside (whilst not actually playing it I might add!) and now it no longer goes ito 'overdrive' when you tilt it up and the direction pad, start and back buttons now no longer work. I could just be very unlucky but consideing how much it costs, I expect better. This is being returned and I'm not getting a new one. I own a real guitar, the money can be put to better use saving for an real electronic drum kit.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER   May 24, 2008

Don't let the price put you off this is the most fun you can have in a box. This game is fantastic, it keeps you entertained for hours, the songs are the best on any game and, apart from a few aches and pains from prolonged playing, there are no downsides. Whether with your friends or alone you never get bored as you can just change what instrument you are playing. The instruments themseleves are well made, the drums espeially so - you can at least see there where some of your money has gone.
If you enjoy Guitar Hero and Singstar and have thought about buying this game, and can afford it, buy it you won't regret it.
