5 out of 5 stars C'mon - Enjoy   March 21, 2008

Look guys I'm 56 years old and play this with my 8 year-old son so, as others have said, if you like solving puzzles this really is the tops for any age. We both love trying to solve the problems with one operating the WiiMote and the other shouting, sometimes bizarre, instructions. As it's a single-player game we sometimes squabble over the WiiMote but, hey, that's kids for you (and I include myself in that)!! I can't add anything more to what others have said about using the WiiMote - turning keys and puzzle pieces, driving contraptions, playing tennis, using mirrors to reflect light, creating keys from ice - all absorbing and fun stuff. C'mon - enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars A game the Wii was made for.   March 17, 2008
Here's what we've been waiting for, an excellent original game that makes full use of the Wii controls and dares to be a bit different. Yet it's hardly made any impact in game sales and we see the same old formula at the top of the charts. Take a look at other reviews to see how good this game is when given a chance. By using the unique Wii control system this game is brought to life in a way which could not be done using conventional gamepads. It takes the point and click adventure and elevates it to another level and if you like games that require a bit of logic without being frustrating then this game could be for you. Give it a go, I don't think you will be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Good puzzles, lots of frustration.   March 10, 2008

I bought this because it was one of the few games I've seen on Amazon where everybody who had reviewed it (at the time I looked) had given it 5 stars. Most people seem to love it - I've found it some fun, but very irritating too.

The puzzles are good, but a lot of the time the only way to proceed when you 1st start a level is to try things at random - use objects, pull levers etc. to see what they do - and very often trying something will cause you to die - with no way you could have possibly guessed it would lead to instant death before you'd tried it.
Then you have to either restart the level from the beginning, or waste coins you've painstakingly collected buying a revival.
Once you've checked out which things are safe to do and which lead to instant death, it's actually quite fun to solve the puzzles - they are very well designed and not too obtuse to be annoying. But the trial and error nature of checking out things to see which ones lead to instant death and which don't is not a very enjoyable way to work through a new level - especially when you're a long way through the level then try a new object/lever etc. and find youself dead yet again and sent back to the beginning or lose coins buying a revival.

The biggest long-term problem for me is that the game is on the short side, and in my opinion there is very little replay value - once you've worked out the solution to a puzzle, there's no challenge in going back and doing it over again.

And though this isn't a major problem, within a few days of buying it I did have the game crash in 2 different locations when I tried a certain series of actions (both involving rising water levels, Zack and Wiki floating out of the water up into the sky, and had to reset the game) - the only times I've ever had a Wii game crash on me apart from Carnival Games.

I applaud the makers for doing such an original game on the Wii, but I wish they'd made it a bit more friendly and forgiving with the unpredictable instant deaths, and ideally a lot longer too.

Show Capcom their efforts havn't gone unrewarded. Buy this brilliant game and hopefully they will make more of the same.

5 out of 5 stars Best game on Wii   March 6, 2008

Zack and Wiki has some of the best puzzles in gaming period. Every puzzle is logical and I really wish they would start putting challenging puzzles like this in video games again as there is not very many cerebral games on the market anymore. The use of the Wii remote is 2nd to none. Capcom are without a doubt the bet games developer bar Nintendo perhaps. Apart from possibly Metroid Prime this is the best game on the Wii. The graphics and gameplay are both superb. It deserves to sell a lot more than it has.
