SIMPLY THE BETTER CONSOLE August 19, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
having now owned 5 xbox360s and having every single one of them break down on me after 1 month of owning i decided to take the plunge and go for the ps3, and boy am i glad i did, this machine is simply fantastic in every aspect, yes its been stripped down, but still with what you get it already is a real rival to the 360 and will soon overtake the 360 as the main console kids and adults alike will want, i hear people moaning about there only being a 40gb hard drive, well iv had the console for roughly 6 months and there has never been an issue about space, the graphics on hi def are spot on and i see no differance on assassins creed having played both the 360 and ps3 versions, and as for this screen tearing?, id love one of you to come round and show me just where this is as iv seen none of this, the ps3 games are growing and though short of the 360s there is plenty out there to keep you going, online play isnt as good as the 360 yet, but it is improving, all in all i cant find fault with anything about this console, there is no way i would ever dream of going back to the 360, doingg so would be like playing russian roulette as to weather it breaks down or not, iv owned 5 and each one has stopped recognising disks after a month of purchase, the ps3 never breaks down, doesnt over heat like the 360-or frying pan whichever you prefer to call it.
SIMPLY WORTH EVERY EXPENSIVE PENNY IT COSTS - BUY ONE OF MISS OUT IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD!!!.
Wait August 17, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
amazing!!! wait till the 23rd of aug 2008 though when the new one comes - 80 GB version. 40 not enough!!! I own GT5 Prolouge and Fifa 08 (both awesome games even without HDTV amazing graphics). They both require me to update to do online and generally improve game. games better with update although for every game update took about 3gb of storage plus 9 GB system update required to create online account. Game progress saving takes hardly anything plus 80GB comes with dualshock controller - much better i am told. Overall is very good but 80 will be better
THE GREAT ONE!! August 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok so the 40GB version...its had some bad press as it lost its backward capability and lets be honest, there is the obviously loss of 20GB! Well to be honest the 40GB version is so much better!! The new chip is more advanced, quieter and stays much cooler. The difference this makes is huge, you don't get distracted by the noise, you wont have any problems with overheating and you will get better performance.
One thing that amazes me every time is the fact that even if all you wanted was a blu ray player, this unit would be cheaper than half the other options on the market!! On top of that you have 2 usb ports, internet capability, the best games console on the market, you can also use it as an external hard drive for music and photos!!
I know 40GB isn't much, but, with almost no knowledge of technology you can take out the hard drive and replace it with a much larger drive. This will make your warranty invalid unfortunately but its helpful for everyone to know that this is possible without damaging your system!
The wireless controllers are second to none. They are light, the battery last for hours and they charge very quickly. I think this makes a huge difference to the console as it makes playing more enjoyable and easier. It also means you can turn your console off without leaving you seat...most useful when your playing in bed!!
The game choice is slightly limited at the moment, there are many games but I don't believe the full potential of the console has really been tapped yet but i'm sure this will be rectified over the next couple of years.
Another bonus of this console is that you can get it for a good price nowadays. Grab yourself a second hand one and you really can be playing for under 250 pounds....that really is a great price for such a huge system with such broad capabilities!!
Buy one and you wont be disappointed!!
If you want the best for online play go for the xbox August 11, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
For the best part of 6 months, my friends have been bereting me to get a PS3 or xbox 360 and after around 4 days I am certain I have made the wrong decision.
PROS of this machine: Graphics are pretty awesome. Easy to use menus Free online play Built in wireless
CONS of this machine: No included headset No great PS3 exclusive games Absolutely no sense of team spirit Fast at loading
The biggest problem I have with this console is that when playing online with about 12 people 0-3 people will have headsets meaning they can't tell you where the enemy is for example and you can't have as much fun as you could have. I'd rather spend another 35 a year for better online play. Another problem is the only game at the moment that is great and only avalible for ps3 is MGS4 but with xbox there is Halo and Gears of War.
AMAZING CONSOLE, BUT PLEASE JUST WAIT FOR THE 80gig model! August 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
So as you may have guessed from the title a new ps3 will be released by the end of august...
Cosmeticly the same, the new ps3 will contain a 80gb hard drive, thats DOUBLE the memory of this model, it will only cost 299.
Now let me review the PS3 in general...
I bought my ps3 on march 23rd 2007 (release date :D) back then it was the 60gb model with a beautiful chrome strip where the silver paint is on the 40gig.
Playstation 3 is the multimedia hub of my house and can be of yours too!
It plays games, first of all. Beautiful looking games, that run at 1080p(thats very pretty for those not in the know ;))
I won't bore you with the facts about the two main graphics chips and SEVEN smaller graphical proccessors ;)
As you should know, many games have now been released on the ps3, but which ones are good? here is a list...(multi-plats included before i get flamed by xbox fanboys)
Metal Gear Solid 4 Grand Theft Auto 4 Burnout Paradise Uncharted; Drakes Fortune Call Of Duty 4 Warhawk Siren Blood Curse Motorstorm
This is only a small portion of the amazing games on the ps3, i just can't be bothered to list more ;)
Another important thing the ps3 has is its Blu-Ray drive, for those who have a HD tv, it means you can watch movies that are in High Definition.
Microsoft has(had) a similar system called HD-DVD, but these disc never sold and have since been discontinued. (woops!)
Online play is also very prominent for Sony now, with the release of the Playstation Network, a similar service to Xbox Live, but it won't set you back 40 a year. It's totally free! (unless you want to buy a game through the PS-Store)
The playstation store was also released on march 23rd and is an online interface that allows you to download free demos and videos, purchase small games (usually 4.99/6.99) and join in on Beta testing. The store should also be seeing the inclusion of full movie downloads in the next few months.
Two big things hitting the Ps3 soon:
1) LittleBigPlanet- rather hard to describe but i will try, its basically a sort of platformer game that comes with ALL the level design tools with the game (but more user friendly) and allows players t create levels and share them online. For more information you put "LittleBigPlanet" into youtube! (do not miss out)
2) Playstation Home- A huge 3d online "hang out" space, you create an avatar and you can chat, play minigames, show off trophies earnt in games, create your own appartment (your "Home") and all sorts of other funky things.
You can also attach the Playstation Eye (HD eyetoy) and any bluetooth headset for your online games.
The playstation 3, despite criticism from early xbox buyers that are now slightly jealous, is clearly the best console on the market (not being a "fanboy")
It has so much technology packed inside it, lightyears ahead of its rivals.
And for 250-300 quid, you can't go wrong, if you still haven't made your gaming choice, this is the one to go for.
And I have also heard people saying it is unreliable, these people clearly haven't played a 360, we had one in our house everyime we wanted to play, something would go wrong. You hear of people on their fourth 360!
The ps3 is unbelievably reliable, and within the next year, wll do the same as the ps2 it will be in everybodies homes.
Just make sue you don't miss out on a brilliant console!
