What are you on about? November 6, 2007 7 out of 18 found this review helpful
Whoever is complaining about the lack of backwards compatibility obviously didn't own a PS2 to play their PS2 games on in the first place. Am I not right? You can just plug in your ps2 and play your old games on where they were meant to be played.
Are Sony the new Nintendo!?!!? November 5, 2007 23 out of 79 found this review helpful
Okay folks, don't buy this if you ever want to play your PS2 games again!!!
This is a really poor move on the part of Sony. One of the best things that the PS3 had going for it was the backward-compatability with PS1 & PS2 games. The console has, what, 60 titles at present? What exactly are people supposed to play if not their pre-existing PS2 games!?!?!
This is the exact reason to avoid things like the Nintendo, with it's ever-changing game disc formats! Even now, Nintendo've almost got their act together, with the ability to play everything but DS games on the Wii!
Also, does this mean we're just supposed to throw out all our old PS2 games, now that they're apparently obsolete? I think not!
There's no way that anyone should need to have two consoles (a PS2 and a PS3) in order to play all of their games! This is just poor.
Don't get this version of the console, if you're planning to buy one. Buy the 60G version, and that way you'll at least be able to play your entire games collection.
congrats to playstation November 2, 2007 6 out of 15 found this review helpful
i like what playstation have done just has xbox bring out an even more expensive 360 that still overheats * sighs * they just dont learn playstation bring out a cheaper version of the ps3 whats cheaper than the 360 elite very clever marketing i think alot of people are going to go for this console especially with xmas coming up ,, and you would be right in doing so playstation 3 is the ultimate next gen console only thing i would say is you will use the 40 gb up very fast :) i love this console and theres not many differences than the 60 gb version if you have stacks of ps2 titles that you still play either ebay them or punt for the 60 gb but if you soley want to play ps3 games then this is the console for you ( yes it plays ps1 games but u can play them on pc lol ) ive had the 360 and had nothing but trouble with overheating where as this console stays nice and cool i congratulate you playstation :)
Fairly good, but I still think everyone should wait a bit. November 1, 2007 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
I think this version of PS3 is alot better. I've already got a PS2 so I don't care about backwards compatibility, and anyway the software used in UK PS3s had major problems with lots of games anyway (some it couldn't even play). Being below the 300 price point is very good.
The PS3 controller is very dissapointing. The Dual Shock 3 is not coming to Europe for a long time. The Sixaxis is light and I'm not a fan of motion control anyway (coming from someone who has owned a Wii). the sticks and face buttons are as bad as always.
Most multiformat Games are being developed for Xbox 360 machine and are then ported to PS3 because 360 is the market leader (at the moment). This results in games that make better use of the 360 hardware (though keep in mind that this may not always be the case in the future if PS3 has overtaken 360). The PS3 ports often end up inferior in every way, with the exception of loading times because the PS3 has a guaranteed hard drive. Though part of its selling point, the PS3's 1080p is often just baddly upscaled 720p with blockier textures. First party PS3 games like Metal gear Solid 4 won't have any problems regarding this. For this gen I'd say 720p is the way to go if you really care about HDTV. All the 360 games will have rumble out of the box but for PS3 you need to download updates. I'm not online so 360 is much better for me.
It looks slightly worse without the nice big cooling grill on the underside front (as on the 60gb version) imo.
A whole lot more reliable than the 360.
Will have nest Fumito Ueda/Team ICO game on it!!!!!!! (see games ICO and Shadow of the Colossus at Wikipedia).
The last two points are enough to persude me that the PS3 is a good console worth its money. But due to the inferior ports and lack of rumble I would wait.
Great console! (best 1 out) November 1, 2007 7 out of 14 found this review helpful
