Not as good as GH2 November 26, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love the game but it's a bit of a let down after GH2 and Rocks the 80s. First of all, the graphics aren't the best. It's very dull and quite difficult to see the rock meter. The hammer ons and pull offs are simple, which can only be a good thing.
I started on Hard Level and it was simple. I 4 & 5 starred everything up until section 8. It's like medium level on GH2 except there's an orange button. Expert is easy so far but I've only gone as far as the 5th section.
It's definitely nowhere near as challenging as the other games but the new battle mode is great fun.
Best Guitar Hero yet November 24, 2007 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
I'll keep this as concise as possible. Firstly, the Wireless Kramer guitar is worth it alone. No fancy ornamental design, just a straight-up, jet black guitar that, I feel, is more Metal than Rock. It really adds to the illusion. Some people have complained that it takes a while to get to the 'good' songs but that is what this series is all about. Obviously the songs that you know are the ones you look forward to playing virtually but, equally, the discovery of songs you didn't know about makes Guitar Hero just as exciting. My skill level so far doesn't extend beyond Medium difficulty and even then Metallica's 'One' and Slayer's 'Raining Blood' were causing chaos on my fingers. God only knows what Hard and Expert are like! Add the inclusion of the legendary Slash and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), who both composed brand new original pieces of music for the game, as Bosses who you have to out play in order to beat and you have the best Guitar Hero yet. If you love your Rock 'N' Roll and are remotely musically inclined, you'd be hard pushed to find better than this. You may even be inspired to pick up a real guitar afterwards!
Just to clear up any confusion November 24, 2007 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
I pre-ordered this package and it arrived today. It does indeed come complete WITH wireless guitar. Definitely not a case of too good to be true, just excellent value. Thank you amazon.

was how I felt when I played this for the first time. Expextations for me were extremely high after guitar hero 2 and then to be faced with this rubbish I was absolutely disgusted. The graphics are shocking, its as if they've tried to make it seems more HDish and trying to compete with the next gen consoles but it doesn't work. The graphics just make the gameplay look a bit blurred and everything seems smaller making it harder to play. I don't expect, when buying a game for a ps2 for the graphics to compete with next gen consoles so don't try if it means you will fail. I don't have a hd tv however im having issues with lag which shouldn't happen. It feels like where i should be playing the notes along to the music is different to when the tv screen shows i should play them. Its only a fraction of a second but it throws you off badly. I feel like ps2 got the raw deal when it comes to this game and it was simply an after thought. Not designed well and ruins a perfectly good formula. Also, all though there are some good songs on this game it will take some time to get to them, the first section is absolutely aweful and extremely boring to play whereas in gh2 there were genuinly good songs throughout all the stages.... Not impressed would be the overall thoughts basically.
...I must say it does look promising... November 23, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
OK, I probably can't add on to this wireless controller debate that's going on below. And no I haven't played the game yet. But have you seen the track list? An amazing variety and unlike GH2 their won't be as many random unsigned bands that you've never heard of (although I liked most of them...TROGDOR!!!) and most of the tracks are well known bands both old and new.
Their is also new multiplayer modes (don't know the name) but it will be like face off and pro face off only you can use your star power to put other people at a disadvantage (e.g. left handed guitar...not a problem for me I'm very ambidextrous) and many other handicaps. But the old multiplayer modes will still be their (for the traditional GH players of course).
What's also got me excited about this game is the boss battle mode. I know it's a stupid thing to get excited about but facing off against the likes of Hendrix and Slash will add to the experience...surely?
And then there's the so called hammer-on and pull-off debate. Has it been made less difficult? In GH2 you could see how much easier it was to pull off this technique then on the original GH...is it easier? The answer is I don't know...I just thought I'd make the point.
And for all the nay sayers that say they won't play it because they play a "real" guitar...I play that sort of guitar too...and this is still fun...it may be more difficult then you think Johnny 18 inch fingers...
