The first truely adult game on the wii and it gets completely censored!!! The wii will just remain a novice, casual gamers choice forever it seems...So sad.
CENSORED FOR EUROPE AND JAPAN March 2, 2008 8 out of 43 found this review helpful
This is a great game, but the developers decided to cut out ALL of the blood and gore that made the American version so great, into this mess. I mean for God's sake, it all looks extremely unrealistic, look on youtube if you don't believe me. The blood and gore is one of the things that made this game so damn fun, and whoever made the decision (whether it was the BBFC, or the publishers I don't know) went and turned it into this half-assed mess. I will be boycotting this release, and wil try to find out if there is someway to get the US uncut version to work on my region locked wii.
Grasshopper does it again February 2, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Grasshopper made a little known game on the gamecube and ps2 for their first outing called Killer 7. That game also had graphics in the same light as No More Heroes.
It seems as though Grasshopper likes the cel shaded games, and I am personally all for it, Killer 7 was also a violent, bloody game and in cel shaded graphics it does not seem as bad, but all the while still looking fun and attractive to play. I was disappointed with the lack of wiimote controls but I think in the heat of battle it would of been a tiresome effort to keep swinging the wiimote around.
All in all a good game, and one well worth getting if your the right age. It is something fun, and distinctively non-wii about it, which is what the wii needs.
A fun game to play before Super Smash Brothers Brawl comes out
Slice And Dice Them January 25, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
First of all, this is a violent title and it's a welcome change of pace from all the "casual" games out there on the Wii. There is blood and mature language, but it's in the style of of what you may have seen in the Kill Bill films. This game is totally over the top and it's funny. It's all about the intense combat, strange characters, witty dialog, wicked sense of humor and overall visual anime-style look of the game.
There are tons of combat maneuvers you can perform with the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Make sure to do the beginning tutorial as once you are done, you will have the controls figured out. The combat is a mix of sword fighting with wrestling type maneuvers (Suplex, Piledriver, Powerslam, etc). The combat never gets boring due to all the variations and moves you can perform. You can charge up your sword swings, stun, block, evade, grab and throw along with combos. It's incredibly refreshing and fun. When you defeat an enemy using a finishing move, little slots at the bottom of the screen start to spin (like a mini jackpot machine) and if you match three slot icons, you will go into 1 of 5 special uber modes for a short period of time. Very cool.
After defeating the first boss (shortly after the beginning tutorial), you won't have enough money to pay the Entry Fee of the next Boss fight. So, you will have to do side-jobs and assassination missions to earn money. You drive your motorcycle around the city to get to the various jobs and missions. I want to point out that this "over world" is strictly to allow you to get from mission to mission and it's not intended to be like Grand Theft Auto where it's an open "sandbox" where you can do anything you want.
You can customize your character by going to the store (named Area 51!!!) and purchasing new T-shirts, Jackets, Jeans, Belts and Sunglasses. You can purchase new beam Katana upgrades. You can also find hidden clothing by destroying objects throughout the environment. You can upgrade your character by learning new wrestling grapple moves at the trainer.
There are a lot of hidden items to find such as trading cards which I have no idea what they are used for.
You can go back to your motel and just hang out and put on different clothing and watch videos (first one available is the original trailer for the game). I am assuming other videos will be unlockable or purchased.
Definitely check this game out. This game has style and personality and you will have not played anything like this before. It's that original. You can tell that the developer, Suda 51 put a lot of heart and soul into this game and truly enjoyed making it.
If Quentin Tarantino made a game.. January 18, 2008 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a super violent, game lover's game- think of it as Kill Bill meets Grand Theft Auto with all great references to pop culture. You play a similar role as The Bride in Kill Bill, you hunt down several assassins and do battle with the light saber shown on the box-art.
Goichi Suda of Grasshopper is one of the most experimental game developers in the industry, this is no doubt their most complete and polished game to date. Grasshopper's collective mind has no limits and Suda was an early vocal supporter of the Nintendo Wii which is why this game exists. However now he has chosen to develop future games on other platforms.
To be frank the system lacks games like this, so if you're in the mood for some mindless, but visually stimulating violence be sure to check it out. You won't find anything on par with it on the Wii in 2008, maybe ever.
