Highly recommended December 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent and easy to use. Found my devices easily and for the one item not found, it was not a problem to programme it. The overall build quality is also very good from the backlit keyboard to the way the remote automatically 'wakes up' when you pick it up. The docking station fit in well with my living room and does not look out of place.
Sadly let down by the software December 29, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
For such a beautifully designed piece of hardware that pays such careful attention to ergonomics and usability, I am truly disgusted that the supporting software fails so abysmally when measured against the same criteria.
Even a simple task such as moving a soft button to a different location on the touch screen can take literally hundreds of highly repetitive and frustrating mouse clicks. As an experienced developer, I know how it can and should be done, so it is obvious to me that this software represents a minimum effort on behalf of Logitech and shows that they clearly don't care what you think of the product once they have your money.
To add insult to injury, it also seems that any account created on their forums will be blocked from posting unless you do nothing but sing their praises and claim that nothing is at fault with the product whatsoever.
Shame on you Logitech...
The Mother of all universals December 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is has restored my faith in universals. The harmony one is truly all you need. This little beauty replaced 7 devices including my archos 605. Although this a high end remote, I like the way it looks and feels like its just one of your regular originals, so the family will use it more and not treat it like it was something from another planet as they did with my previous touch screen.
Installing the software was relatively easy. Setup however was not as straightforward as the manual would suggest (especially if your device is not listed) I had a little trouble setting up my Isymphony bluee music player as the database didn't have it listed. So I found a close match & tweaked it. You will need a PC/MAC & Internet access. I would also say that you may have to invest some time setting it up correctly but its worth it once you do as you will never need to use the original remotes again. I love the Activities feature, one touch to say watch a dvd and providing you spend time setting up it will do every command you want save putting the disc in the tray. You can customize it to some extent, I only wish it was fully. You can add favourite channel icons for watching TV. The display is lovely, clear & bright, however it is a finger print magnet I guess thats why Logitech has provided a cleaning cloth. The keys are well lit, but because they are so well placed I find you can find your way around with your eyes closed.(something you cant do with the harmony 1000)
The next step is to sort out my ps3(bluetooth) and get it working to the Harmony. There are a number of solutions out there to get around that. For help I found the Logitech Forum quite useful.
At the time of purchase Amazon was the cheapest at 79.99. If your looking for one remote solution then the harmony One...Is the One for you!
2 steps forward and 1 back December 14, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've upgraded from a Logitech Harmony 525 to the Harmony One and it's a definite improvement but they've still got a way to go before it's perfect. Like I say I'm not new to these remotes but it still took a while to set up, so I can see how it would be off-putting for a lot of people. That said, now it's up and running, it does precisely what it is supposed to do. The 4 remotes that I wanted to replace are now tucked away in a drawer and look likely to stay there. Compared to the Harmony 525 it has a much better feel, the buttons don't feel cheap as they did on the 525, and there's no longer any lag between pressing a button and something actually happening.
On to the bad stuff... The software is poor. You can spend time arranging stuff, go into a new tab and then find that all of your previous work was erased because you didn't save it. Lack of physical red, green, blue and yellow buttons. Yes you can put them onto the screen but it's just not the same (see my next point below). A real backwards step as my old 525 had them. The touch screen is a nice idea but very imprecise. I frequently end up selecting something other than what I wanted to pick. Poor.
Overall I've given it 3 stars but it's by no means bad and I'm happy with mine, I just feel that Logitech were close to having a superb universal remote with the 525 and the Harmony One still feels like work in progress.
