g15 is awsome March 8, 2008 this is one of the best keyboards i have ever used and believe me when i say i have used a lot of keyboards (too many).
any first off the backlight, the backlight is v good for middle of the night gaming which i tend to do a lot of and you can turn it off during the day and you dont have to look for the keys due to periferal vision comes in handy.
Sencondly the G-KEYS, the g-key macro software helps when you want to open programms without having to go through start menu, and while in games and in programs and the macro recode helps with on the fly keystrokes that you'll forget.
lastly the LCD screen and media keys, this is the selling point the screen is one a focal point and has a lot of uses for media, games, chat progs , and sys info, media keys control all media from the media keys during games without having to alt + tab all the time.
In concoulsion i would highly recomend this keyboard to anyone and if it wasnt system access i would take this to work and use it there.
Better than the first one February 1, 2008 I wanted to buy the blue old one but Version 2 made me almost jump out of my chair, it's a lot better than i've expected it to be. The LCD display comes with a lot of extra stuff and it's configurable.
"Many people complain about just 6 G-Keys" Open your eyes and you spot the Buttons "M1 , M2, M3", this changes the Layout for the G Keys so you can switch game modes by just hitting one of the keys. the MR Key lets you place a "Quick Macro". As usual you get a "Windows Key Block", this blocks the Windows Key on the keyboard, so you dont get thrown out of a programm or a game when accidently pressing it. the keys are really soft and it's impossible to lose grip on them.
There are a lot of modifications that makes your Keyboard "flash" in a row and such, Mods for games, Music Players, Visualizations, BMP Pictures in the Display. This Keyboard is a must buy for everyone looking for a great keyboard ;)
Not the old G15 January 22, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this Logitech G15 because the picture shows the original version with blue LED's,I thought maybe they must still have a few left in stock , I was wrong , it has arived today and is the new version with orange LED's.It looks like the old ones are gone forever!!!! I think i am going to keep it anyway , the orange isn't that bad afterall, also it does make a lot of sense in dim light. That is why it is/was used in submarines. (night adaption) Less stressful than blue light
A word of warning January 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the G15 (Blue) in America last year and have been using it ever since, it's an amazing keyboard, not a bad word to say about it. But, when it stopped working (Too many Sprites spilled!) I decided to order a new one from Amazon (With a UK layout). The reason I bought it here was because I thought I was buying the older blue version (With 18 macro keys), beware that even though the blue model is pictured, they're actually selling the new red model (6 macro keys).
The red model is quite a bit smaller and the keys feel a lot more solid than the old model. The screen is much smaller but I think the resolution is the same as all of the old applets I had work, this makes the display look a lot sharper.
Dissapointing December 30, 2007 21 out of 24 found this review helpful
I really, really wanted to like this keyboard; I've read many great reviews of it (including others here on amazon) and having wanted a 'gaming' keyboard for some time i decided to buy a G15.
To start with the basics, it's about the same size width as most media keyboards and isn't annoyingly deep either. The keys themselves feel slightly rubberized, a really nice touch, and are illuminated from below. The etching (if thats what it is) on the keys isn't uniformly up to standard, resulting in some of the keys being only partially illuminated but overall its a nice effect and useful when playing in the dark. The included wrist-support is plain plastic and not at all cushioned, its also fairly poorly secured onto the keyboard and there is a distinct gap between the two.
The 'G' keys down the left hand side of the keyboard, useful in games as they CAN be (vast majority of games simply don't need that many keys), mean orientating your hand on the keys is difficult to start with (I usually touch the leftmost keys on the keyboard and use them as a reference, so with the addition of the G keys, that reference is now wrong). In addition the keys themselves are in a standard non-ergonomic arrangement, slightly disappointingly at this price especially, ergonomic design and gaming go hand-in-hand in my book.
The LCD, straight out of the box, is rubbish. Mine came with something like THREE games having native support and the only one i actually owned was half life 2. Booted it up, the LCD registered the game "half life 2 (single-player) and then promptly did nothing else. At all. No ammo counts, no health counter.. NOTHING. To my mind displaying information thats usually in a games HUD anyway on a keyboard was always going to be of dubious use but if the LCD isn't even going to do that then what the hell is the point? Im going to be generous and assume this was either a bug or me being stupid.
A quick browse on the internet will reveal mods adding support for various games, some of which are quite cool (displays of individual weapon stats on counter-strike for example), but the point is you have to go out and install them yourself from third parties, logitech's support is almost non-existent even triple A games like crysis, call of duty etc aren't supported. Overall then the screen was always going to be of questionable use but logitech have decided to not bother making any more useful themselves.
Lastly, my absolute biggest gripe, the deal-breaker, is that the response of the keys is AWFUL. There is a significant dead-zone on each of the keys where pressing them won't do anything. This means in games where a single key is being pressed down, you need a fair amount of pressure constantly applied to prevent the key slipping back up into the dead zone and breaking the input.
That might sound pathetically pedantic but just picture you're running around in an fps and suddenly you stop running until you push that TINY bit harder on the key. If a GAMING keyboard is going to do anything right it had better not screw you over when you're playing games. It's really disheartening and it's the first time I've had the fun of a game diminished by my keyboard. It might not happen all the time, but the point is it should NEVER happen, ever, ever, ever, ever. And I'm not some 90 year old man who cant press keys either, I'm 20 and have played enough games on enough hardware to know this is just dud.
A resounding failure as a gaming keyboard. From my experience I can only recommend buying one if you can test it beforehand to check for the key-response issue.
