very impressed!! December 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i bought this a few months ago and i have been very very impressed, needed to update it at first but this was quick and simple, networked it straight in to my router and clicked update and the blu ray player did the rest, only took about five minutes to update, loading times are pretty quick aswell, although it does depend on the disc its self, ie the more special features they have they will tend to load up a little bit slower, but still it isnt much more time than what a dvd would take to load up.
five stars *****
well done sony!!
Will work with ANY TV! December 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have to agree with all the many positive reviews this player has earned. At the price it is excellent value for money offering many features for HD viewing. All I would add to the many other reviewers' comments is that this player will work with any TV. As well as upscaling DVDs to look better on HD TVs it will also allow blu ray discs to be viewed on an SD TV - you don't need to wait until you get an HD ready TV to get some of the benefits of blu ray technology!
I have used this player on an old Sony 28" CRT TV with stunning results, and the player even comes with the three phono to phono lead ready to connect up! No HDMI lead though. If you want to start building your blu ray disc collection, but don't want to replace your TV yet, then you can easily start by buying this player. You even get three blu ray discs included for free at the time of writing - why wait any longer?
Magnificent! December 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had just splashed out on a new 1080p TV for use with my Virgin V+ box and was delighted with the results. I was tempted to buy a cheap Blu Ray player from a High Street catalogue store, but a work colleague urged to pay a little extra for this beauty. He had just bought one for around 200 and raved about it.
So, I took the plunge and ordered a Sony from Amazon. - How about this: Ordered at 1.10pm on Friday, delivered 11.15 am Saturday! What's more is that this was the week before Christmas. Fantastic service from Amazon.
The Sony is superb. It looks great and is full of features that set up easily. I connected it to my Internet router and it updated itself quickly and without any hassle. It is faster to start up than my old DVD recorder and even quieter than my V+ box.
The picture quality is amazing. Having no Blu ray discs at the time, I tried out a few of my old DVDs, starting with Gladiator. The upscaling is brilliant. The picture was awesome. I can hardly wait to wade through my whole collection as I am sure that each one will look so much better this time around.
Are there any niggles? Well, if I was to be really picky, I would suggest that the remote feels a little cheap. But who cares? I want to watch the screen, not the remote!
Go on. If you own a full HD TV, treat yourself. It's almost rude not to!
blu dreams December 18, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this product a few weeks ago and im very impressed. Ive got it hooked up to an Onkyo 606 receiver and a Panasonic PZ80 plasma. As a consequence the results are frankly staggering, watching the vibrancy of the coulours on Speed racer or the depth of shadow reproduction on The Orphanage is a sight to behold. As for the sound it delivers in spades, using the stand out action scene in the Dark Knight where the joker is chasing down Harvey Dent the acoustics about tear my walls down. It delivers a scale and vibrancy to the action that these ears have seldom experienced outside of a multiplex. Having built my home cinema system up over time as funds have allowed the sony player formed the final part of my AV jigsaw. Now all the parts are communicating hamoniously i feel im finally getting the true benifits this next gen technology has to offer. Without doubt this is an excellent product by Sony and high time too given they were the protaginators of the format. Of course more money could achieve even better results but if your working on a budget like i was then this Sony is more than fit for purpose. Given its relative cheapness and the fact your getting a couple of free blu rays into the bargain now is as good a time to get on the next gen bandwagon as any enjoy.
You cannot fault this player , price/performace ratio is superb December 17, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
With so many players available you will not go wrong with this. I have it linked to my Sony Bravia KDLV3000 and it works like a dream. Like many others I have just started with blu-ray discs, however the upscaling of normal dvd's is brilliant and better than my Teac dvd/cd player with 1080i upscaling. One great benefit not spoken about is the viewing of still jpeg images. Quality of pictures from cd or dvd is brilliant on the 1080p tv, superb resolution and colours. So if you're into photography you will find this feature fantastic.
Upgrading the firmware via internet was quite easy.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and delivery from Amazon.
