Very Poor Quality - Disc 2 November 12, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Can't install this due to Disc 2 problems. These seem to be very common so I suspect that some sort of copy protection is to blame. Game returned for a refund as it is clearly unfit for purpose.

I have to say I am not a big fan of MMO, the only games I bought prior to this was D&D Stormreach, I was a big fan of D&D when I was a kid but was disappointed in the lack of player helpfulness when it comes to the harder quests, even when I joined a guild there seemed to be a lack of support. After shelving the game I bought Guild Wars, which is free to play but it just wasn't a game I enjoyed. Being a fan of the Warhammer tabletop battle game and having played ALL the computer games based on this I invested in WAR, despite some of it's bad reviews. So far so good.
INSTALLATION - Despite bad reviews about game installation and setting up and account with GOH I have had no problems, there is a rather sizable patch once installation is complete, but being a hardcore gamer I am used to this and just made a brew. Once the game is installed, actually starting the game is quite fast.
RACES/CAREERS - I'm abit gutted that there isn't more of a variety of careers, given the amount of different troops in the TT battle game I was hoping there would be more. Hopefully they will introduce more in future patches. But you get to select whether to fight for Order or Destruction, then your race, Dwarves, Elves or Human, Goblinoid, Dark Elves or Chaos. Then you select your career ranging from sorcerers to fighters all with their different aspects and abilities.
GAMEPLAY - Just like any other MMO you go wandering the world looking for quests to advance in levels, what I like about WAR compared to D&D is they are managable on your own, at least if you don't try and jump ahead to the more difficult ones before you have ranked up. Moving about can be quite boring if you keep dieing and have to go back to the same quest, but thats your own fault for not being battle worthy, lol. The graphics aren't the best I have seen in a game, but that's ok, given it's an MMO, I wouldn't want it to start lagging with the amount of players and graphics all going on. But they are still ok. I like the idea of crafting as well, which could be something like mixing ingredients to form potions and such, growing weed and that's not the waccy baccy stuff either.
QUESTS - There are private quests and public quests, which is pretty cool. Given to you by NPC's, the private ones you can achieve on your own which I find a plus over D&D ST. The public ones are really hard, I tried one with only one other player and we got battered by a demon of change, I'll have to try and recruit some peeps for that. There is also the realm v realm combat, not exactly a quest but more of a battle between Order and Destruction. The Warhammer World in game, is split into zones which are owned by either side. All you have to do to take part is select a button on the interface and when the next battle starts you are teleported to that site and you fight it out with other players. Then teleported back when it is over. Everything you do in the WAR world contributes points to your realm (zone control), whether they be private, public or RvR.
Overall, when my 1 month free subscription is over I will pay to play, so far it is worth the 30. I have only given it a 4 star so far as I am more of an RTS gamer than an MMO player.
Even better than WoW! November 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After playing WoW a few years ago I have not yet found another MMORPG to take its place.... Warhammer Online as done this! The game mechanics are excellent and the whole race storyline and game progression with the public quests really makes this game enjoyable.
I strongly recommend this game!
WAR AOR November 5, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
this is a good game the RVR (PVP to most people) is a very major part of the game it os done very well when it started there was loads of it going on but soon after the amount of people doing it died down most people decided to level there characters this wouldnt have been a problem but they have created so many servers that they all are low population or medium but only just so i feel that if they had introduced them later it might have help and also they are always offering you to join a server but they ask you to join a german server but i cant speak german so how can i do a quest if i cant read it. going onto the general world it is very good i like how it is layed out although there could be more flight paths but apart from that i like monstears and epecialy the public quests these are easy to do by youself up to a certain stage so if you want the first rewards you can but if you can you still want to get a party so the balance is correct so in general the world is very good i move onto questing i found that in the first area you were flodded with them so you were happy but they wernt all so easy it took you a few hours but later you keep need to flying to different areas to get new quests thsi got me bored very fast but the quest you get are interesting and challenging i found them really fun. errors and glitches i found that i got caught up lots of glitchs and bug but offten if you were stuck you just pressed left right forward and jumped and you would get out but there were lots a other big ones that you couldnt do anything about at first you couldnt become a "white lion" or "sqig hearder" as the pets you got wouldnt attack or somtime disapeared but however i feel that they did a good job at clearing thse up although you still see creature that are glitched out. A question that i see been asked or answered is whats better WOW or WAR and somtimes guildwars but i dont feel you can comapaire these games although they use the same style they focus on different things guildwars is fairly clearly different but WOW is kinda simular but there are major differeces WAR has a big RVR gamer style world RVR and battle fields but WOW i feel ruined its RVR (pvp) when they came out with area's i dont see what there is for people who arnt level 70 or 80 soon but this isnt a WOW review but my main point is you can compair certain aspects like the graphics or types of characters but in general the games are different so it all depemds on what you like. this is a good game to buy but the monthly payments are a bit too much tey should have undercut WOW and that would really boost there buys but if you have the cash this is a really good buy.
WAR vs WoW November 5, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've played WoW for 3.5 years and have two 70's. What I found most fun and rewarding was playing with other people but this was often difficult to achieve due to the difficulty of finding groups for PVE. The PVP in WoW (the battlegrounds mostly) was also not very enjoyable because the fights (not the BGs themselves) don't last that long compared to WAR because you died faster, especially as a healer.
So far I like WAR a lot more.
The levelling experience from 1-40 feels less grindy than in WoW where I often couldn't stay in the game for more than a few hours before I got sick of it. You can also do 3 different scenarios(like WoW battlegrounds but better) from level 1 on and you get experience for it contrary to what you have in WoW. Equipment also drops from dead enemies in the scenarios.
There are also things such as public quests which encourage you to group with others but you can also grind the first stage yourself for some good gear while waiting for a scenario to pop up.
And besides that you also have normal quests as in WoW, but in WAR you are shown where to go on the map which makes it less frustrating to find things sometimes.
Instanced dungeons at endgame seem to be better implemented in WoW right now but that is understandable after 4 years and there's no LFG system for dungeons like in WoW yet.
The graphics of WAR are nicer than Wow's although this might change with the expansion after Wotlk when they plan to do an overhaul.
The fun factor in WAR is playing against other players and this you will be able to from the moment you create your character. PVP fights in scenarios usually last longer than fights in the BGs in WoW 'cause it takes longer to kill people. As a healer I die less often now and have a better chance to escape from melees. Gear is also less defining compared to WoW, low level less well geared players can score high on the meters. This makes playing more fun and rewarding.
If you like PVE grinding and instanced dungeons than WoW with Wotlk or LOTRO might be better for you, as things stand now. But I find that in WoW you now need to grind all the way to L80 before you get to the real fun of the game. Whereas in WAR I was having fun from L1 onwards.
