Ignore all bad reviews! This game is brilliant December 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I saw Mirrors Edge was a discount on Amazon so I downloaded the demo from PSN. I thought it was great - the drenolin rush is so addictive. Its in a way a puzzle game, because you have to see where you have to get and how to get there. I recieved the real game for Christmas and it was way better than the demo - far over my expectations. The storyline is great - first the runner's (Faith) sister gets kidnapped and its the only family she has. Chapter two (Chapter one is in the demo - getting the bag to Celeste, another runner) is to go after her, ask her whats going on and why theres a dead man next to her, then to run away from the cops involving loads of really cool stuff like going through air vents and smashing lots of glass and wall running I could go on and on... about ten minutes of solid playing without any deaths you reach the ground. This is fun too, as the demo suggests no such thing. I don't know how many chapters there are but they take loads to complete - I'm on the end of the end of the third chapter after about an 1 hour each day playing time. It's four days after Christmas! I expect there are many chapters however, because if you choose "choose chapter" on the main menu then it will give you a 3D view of the MASSIVE city and the red bit is where the chapter is based and what your route should be. Another bonus - on the "Choose Chapter" selection you can load a checkpoint, not a seperate chapter, so not only when you die you go to the last checkpoint crossed: you can load up any checkpoint you've unlocked. To be good at this game (especially in the 3rd Chapter) you need a lot of reaction time and also quick thinking and good general timing. You will probably have many tactics by the end of each chapter, and each chapter is longer and harder than the previous (so far). If you don't want to keep this game once you've completed it then I don't think it will come much more down in price, as it's already quite an old game. For me the only disadvantages so far: 1. No multiplayer (which I imagine would be hard anyway becuase they would have to make another character) 2. Its a sixteen - I don't know why pegi have the massive gap - 12+ and 16+. For me it looks something like a twelve or a fourteen (if there was one). 15 is stretching it but I'm under sixteen and I think its fine - there is the use of guns, but only minorly and there is no blood so far. In comparison to the Call of Duty - World at War which starts off with someone being tortured, spitting out blood and being killed, with guns and blood the main part of the game, and especially seeing as Call of Duty is a 15! 3. There is no sequal - it would have been nice since the game has been out for so long, but still, I suppose I will have to wait and pray! I am aware this is getting quite long so thanks for reading - I highly recommend this game to you!
Amazing!!!! December 21, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Mirror's Edge is a game like no other before. There are so many racing games exactly the same, platformers, shoot -em-ups etc. But there has never been anything like Mirror's Edge before - completely unique and utterly stunning.
This game has been nominated for a golden joystick and it deserves 5 stars on innvoation and creativity alone. This game draws you in right from the start where you play as Faith - a runner. As a runner you can make death-defying leaps and jumps from building to building across a beautifully-mapped and visually stunning cityscape. Make amazing moves from pipes, rooves, planks, boxes etc.
The graphics are amazing and so are the interactions with people and objects. You can sneak behind guards and steal their guns, punch and kick your way past the blues and their sniper rifles as you seek to escape their chase.
Sometimes you get stuck where to go and then get completely obliterated by the cops, missed jumps etc can also be annoying; but this game is awesome. 5 stars all the way, and at this price it's a must have for all PS3 owners.
Half a game December 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a first person game that you play from the view of a woman named 'Faith'. You are a runner, trained to deliver pakages as a career by jumping over rooftops and fences and swinging of poles. Your sister has been framed for murder and it's up to you to rescue her. It's a fictional city but it is beautiful. The graphics are pretty with great lighting effects that really create a sense of depth. As you play through the game you will be chased by the police as they try to kill you without warning. The best thing to do is run but you can fight and takle them for their weapons but you won't need a gun for long. This game however lacks diversity. It seems that although you are an amazing runner and you have got the whole city to jump around, but your not, and you havn't. Basically, depending on the obsticle in front you either jump over it or slide under it and when it's not that you scale a wall. There should be options on how to do it, like roll over it or summersault but sadly not. The route is pre-set for you so you don't need to look around, just follow the red objects. It just seems so lineer. You might as well buy the 'Bejing olympic games'. I completed the game in about 6 hours and when I saw the credits roll I couldn't help but feel that this game is over priced and over rated. There are tons of games that offer you good value, like Resistance 1&2, Fifa 09 and Midnight Club LA but this is bareley worth the discount price.
good but could've been better December 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
after playing the demo and watching a lot of videos about mirror's edge i was hooked and couldn't wait to play the full game, just completed it and i can now say i enjoyed it,i couldn't say that while i was still playing it,you will die a lot in mirrors edge the first time around it can be very and i mean very very frustrating to the point where i told myself i wasn't playing it again some of the jumps you will try maybe 20 times before you get it,the runner vision shows where you need to get to,not how to get to it so you may spend a minute or two looking about while being shot at by cops and attack choppers.the graphics i really like and the soundtrack is awesome the only drawback sometimes halfway through a level and a loading screen will appear after 10 or 15 seconds back into the game i thought this was quite poor from a next gen game.the story is weak and you can see the twists a mile off and the end boss is poor, but when you are running mirrors edge is great bordering awesome jumping from building to building while being chased is great fun.i got this for 40 it's now nearly half price diff worth it,in january 09 more time trail maps( which are very adictive) are hitting psn so i would say it worth a look if you want a change from your usual fps games
Art and fun cannot mix even on a playstation! December 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mirrors edge looks amazing, ill grant you that at least but if you play it youll be sadly dissapointed! Theres just nothing there! The story is weak, the lack of colour and a poor camera angle makes it terrible to play! In esscence what should of and could of been a great game looks half finished!
Even Half finished over justifies it, Im lead to belive after playing as much as i could bear that the designers left half way through had a big lunch with lots of wine had a little nap and woke up 5 minutes before the deadline and thought ah hell it will do!
If youve played it to the end i commend your enthusiasm, personally however i wish id trusted my instincts after playing the demo and not bought it! Its a poor title for an otherwise impecable platform!
