5 out of 5 stars This game takes PES09 to the cleaners.   October 29, 2008
I have never been one for PES but i just cannot get why there are so many things wrong with the new one. The uncontrollable lag online, the poor commentary and the lack of realistic gameplay. I played it the other day and it just makes me quite annoyed. You just cannot play football and the lag and loading online is just awful.
But anyway off PES im here to review Fifa
Fifa 09 is in my opinion the best football game i have ever played.
Realistic player movements, better game modes and no more glitches online! The possible negatives about this game could be the advantage rule and the amount of bookings you can get, i think EA just need to make it a bit more lenient and the ref just warns the players first and then books them. But apart from that little problem i cant think of another thing.
I think a lot of PES followers will be rather frustrated with the lack of improvement in the gameplay and should certainly try the new fifa, it could be a very attractive proposition to you all.
I just cant reccommend this game enough, a definite must buy!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding, Fifa 09 stretches clear of PES   October 26, 2008
Fifa 09 is simply a superb all round football game that sets out to please most footy fans and in my opinion its definitely achieved its aim. Graphics are superb and an improvement on Fifa 08 and the gameplay is the best of the recent resurgence. So much more in depth in the manager mode then what is seen on PES whereby we have the same old master league system and no movement in clubs. Fifa 09 uses real money and you can freely move clubs at the end of a season and win trophies in different countries. PES seems to be stuck in its one dimensional ways whereas Fifa is always improving and is definitely the one to have out of the two, I'll probably get both but not PES for a while so believe me when buying a football game make it Fifa 09 it is just simply the full package and you'll just love it and even more so if you haven't played a Fifa game in a while this is definitely tine to jump back in.

2 out of 5 stars Rob Styles Officiates this game!   October 24, 2008

Fifa has always been my favourite football game. Never liked PES. BUT this years addition I am not so keen on. After 15+ games(Winning 3)On xbox live. I am left feeling frustrated and annoyed.

The game has some nice tweaks from last years addition. Taking a corner looks much more realistic. The referee can get in the way of your vital passes and when taking a goal kick you can smash it off your players giving the team an unsuspected goal!

But i admit i bought this game because my team Stoke are in the premiership so I had to get a peace of history. Playing over 150+ Xbox live matches on 08 and 15+ on 09. I am left bewildered.

Firstly The REFEERE. At this moment I am left feeling that Rob Styles is officiating ALL of my matches.

EA games haven't got a clue. To my delight after a few hammerings (4-0, 5-1) I smashed the ball in the back of the net just inside the box. IT felt great BUT. The referee blew the whistle and gave a penalty for a late tackle. Which was undoubtedly saved making me feel something i wont say but ill leave to your imagination.

Free kicks are given when they shouldn't and when you deserve one the ref doesn't want to know. The last penalty i gave away was ridiculous. The opponent played the shot and i followed through taking the rebounded ball out for a corner but no. Penalty awarded.

If you attempt to dribble into someone your guaranteed to end up on your backside. This happens on average 10+ times a match. So i don't know what kind of football game EA created this on, but its just daft.

The commentary is identical from last year. The goal celebrations are cheap, laggy and a complete was of time. Who wants to see Ronaldo do the robot dance?! Just another cheap and nasty addition to the franchise. Well done EA!

It looks nice but DON't buy it. Wait! Lend your friends copy or if you do. Trade it in for COD5 when it's out. Like i will.

3 out of 5 stars The charm wore off!   October 20, 2008

Great first impressions I must say, I just couldn't stay off it when I first bought it, although the FIFA fun expiration date was still in place and I quickly grew bored. The gameplay is a vast improvement on older versions but its style and manner just gets old and I just no longer get the urge to play anymore- one of the most monotonous football games I have ever played. I traded it in for PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) 2009 as I sit on the fence in the battle that ensues and am very, very impressed with it. The gameplay is not only real but fun, FIFA just tried too hard fair play to them, but that was their downfall in the end- no fun. But I'm not here to review PES, just go and get it!

4 out of 5 stars Better than i expected for Fifa   October 20, 2008
I usually buy Fifa over pro evo although this doesnt mean i have been happy with the standard they've been reaching lately. So i wasn't too excited about Fifa 09.

However, i am really glad i bought it and although its not flawless, its a really fun game with some of the problems from previous games removed.

As mentioned in other reviews, the Be a Pro mode is great fun. The satisfaction you get when your player scores his first goal is much more than when you score in regular gamepley, and its great to see him getting better as time goes on. Another huge plus for this mode is it can be played as mulitplayer offline. although only player one recieves XP for their pro, the other players still recieve a match rating so its really social.

Online so far has been fun for me, obviously EA cannot stop the trash talking which can happen on xbox live but i'd say ive had a blast in 90% of online BAP games ive played. Plus, the replays for offsides are hilaious when you see a wall of midfielders and strikers racing down the pitch!

Manager mode is as in depth as ever, plus it now has the new feature of adidas live season. this looks to be a great feature as it affects your players form based on their form in real live, however im very dissapointed it doesnt include the scottish premier league in this feature. looks like after another couple of seasons with celtic i'll need to look for a new club! Player morale also doesnt seem to be as much of an issue as it was in previous games which is great, since that did make picking a team slightly tedious.

As for gameplay, you can now jostle for headers rather than button mashing, tackling seems improved, it seems easier to score from inside the box, harder to score from a corner, im still rubbish at free kicks and getting a goal from over 30 yards out (with the help of the finesse button) was brilliant. Occasionaly my player being controlled seems to change inexplicably which can cause some shouting at the tv especially since if the new player is on the opposite side you can easily lose a few yards to the man your marking, but this just a small irritation which im sure i could fix by altering the cpu control over my team (if i could be bothered).

All in all, this is the best Fifa yet, and for less than 40 more than worth the money, since i can easily see me still playing it when next years comes out.
