Product Description Building on the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War thrusts players into the ruthless and gritty chaos of WWII combat like never before.
Amazon.co.uk Call of Duty returns, and to many people’s surprise, it’s going back to World War II. While original series creators Infinity Ward brought the series into the modern day, developer Treyarch are setting out to make the definitive historical first-person shooter. The Soviet attack on Berlin features intense street battles | Take on the Japanese navy as you board a U.S. flying boat | World at War features the most realistic fire effects ever | The new ability to swim adds to both the story and multiplayer modes | The game is primarily set in the Pacific theatre and has a much more realistic, violent tone requiring less-linear game play than previous Call of Duty installments. You'll struggle to survive Japanese attacks without mastering new gaming skills, like swimming or how to use a flamethrower--a weapon that packs some punch in the fully destructable game world. Also featured is a campaign on the Eastern front, where you take control of a soldier in the Soviet Red Army during the attack on Berlin in the closing stages of the war. The game also includes the series’ first co-op mode, while the competitive multiplayer mode aims to build upon the achievements of Call of Duty 4 and add to the game’s longevity. Key Features - Dual campaigns: Fight in two very different World War II battles. Take on the Japanese Imperial army in the Pacific, and liberate Berlin as part of the Soviet Red Army.
- Grim realities: Experience the most bloody and realistic combat ever seen in the series, as you witness enemy atrocities and wield horrific new weapons such as the flamethrower.
- Job with benefits: Revamped competitive multiplayer mode features useable vehicles and an expanded perks system from Call of Duty 4.
- Brothers in arms: For the first time, a Call of Duty game features a four-player co-operative mode that’s playable online or via a split screen option on the same console.
- Modern graphics: The game uses an enhanced version of the Call of Duty 4 graphics engine, with wood that splinters realistically when shot and fires that spread organically.
About the Developer: Treyarch One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

v.good game January 5, 2009 i preordered this months before it was released it is fantastic game the best fps on the wii so far the graphics are good gameplay is good and the controller does not mess up every time a grenade goes off like in cod 3.
good points: graphics online mode 2 player campaign
bad points: no zombie mode only 8 player online 2 player is not as good as ps3 or 360 as one player moves and shoots and the other just shoots.
Call of duty World at War January 4, 2009 For someone that doesn't often play call of duty, this wii version was so unexpected. I bought a wii because it was more fun than all the graphic filled games on the ps3 etc. but this game is brilliant. I've found it really easy to play and it is so addictive. I recommend u get it if amazon has it in stock, if not play.com is one of the cheapest places!
Awesome addition for the Wii December 28, 2008 I personally think this is a top drawer release and takes the Wii into another dimension away from the usual prettiness of using Mii characters for almost everything. The console may not have the power of the XBOX 360 but for me the gameplay and graphics are still smooth and accurate. Read the instructions around console settings as I found the gameplay at 60Hertz much improved away from the default 50.
One of the earlier reviews here said that the console reads the game disc all of the time and therefore could reduce the life of the console but I have to say that I have failed to notice much if any of a difference to any other game so far.
I bought this game with the Wii Zapper and the combination is excellent - in all I'm very impressed indeed...
very good, but lacks a bit in the online and offline multiplayer December 7, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This game was pretty awesome in campaign mode, but slightly lacked in the multiplayer modes. the campaign had the gore, brilliant story line and bad language i had hoped for...but the offline multiplayer wasn't "fun" for the second player. What i mean by this is that the second sight was helpful for the first player, but got a bit dull for the second player as he/she only got to shoot . The online multi player was great... except for the fact that there were only about 5 maps to play on.
So over all i think this game is pretty damn good, but don't buy it if you have a brother or sister who are DESPERATE to play this kind of game with you (at the same time of course) but i can stop stressing how amazing this game is for one player.
How to punish your Wii !!! December 6, 2008 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
After playing Call of Duty 3 on the Wii, I was hoping World at War would be much better. Well the answer is yes and no.
The good stuff is the graphics are better, there is now smooth online play and the single player levels seem more intense now. The controls still seem fine to use, but maybe not as good as Metroid.
The BAD stuff is the poor Wii has to work EXTRA hard now. Yes, the Wii's DVD drive has to constantly read the disc all the time whilst playing. This not only creates more noise, but it MUST be shortening the life of the drive on the Wii drastically. Most games only read the disc now and then, but this game is constant.
I got rid of the game, not because I didn't enjoy the gameplay, but was worried my Wii would wear out much quicker.
So really, you make your own mind up, but i wasn't going to take that risk.
