The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics™ system, these new technologies create gameplay only possible on the new generation of consoles. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioural-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behaviour on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.

Game Features:
  • During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
  • Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
  • Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
  • In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
  • Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility.
  • The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for next-generation consoles, and it represents the first in-game collaboration of talents and technology between LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic, two companies now finally under one roof at the new Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco's Presidio district.
  • The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd.
  • LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press.

Meet the Cast
The Star Wars Saga will continue in 2008 with LucasArts' biggest-ever video game event. Set during the "dark times" between Episodes III and IV, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed portrays the previously untold story of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice -- and now you can put a face to that mysterious character as well as the major supporting cast members as LucasArts unveils the actors set to star in The Force Unleashed.

The Cast of The Force Unleashed

The New Technology of The Force Unleashed
With The Force Unleashed, LucasArts not only introduces a new chapter in the Star Wars saga, but also two completely new and innovative technologies -- Digital Molecular Matter by Pixelux Entertainment and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. These groundbreaking technologies combine with Havoc physics to create true next-gen gameplay and the Force like it's never been seen or experienced before.

5 out of 5 stars Depends on what you are looking for...   October 7, 2008
If you are looking for an in-depth game, free-roaming gameplay and exploration, and you are keen to get stuck into a huge virtual world, then this is not really appropriate for you.

If, on the other hand, you want a game where you don't really think too much, it doesn't take ages to get through, and most of all, the main gameplay element is FUN then this is most certainly for you.

I agree with those reviewers who rate this pretty low, as it isn't the deepest or most free-roaming game in the world. But thats not the idea - the idea is to be able to force-lightenening your way through hordes of stormtroopers, being surrounded in tight spaces and repulsing soldiers into the wall, flinging people off platforms, or indeed into other people, bringing down tie fighters with explosive barrels and performing devastating lightsabre attacks infused with force lightening and combined with force push.

I love it. If I wanted a great free-roaming RPG I'd have got Mass Effect. Which I did, and thats great too.

4 out of 5 stars This game has it   October 4, 2008
If you are looking for the kind of freedom games like Oblivion and Grand theft auto offers then you will be sad...this game is action and cool and well star wars. The hype was right this is a great game that will last you about 9 hours. There are various lightsabre crystals to unlock giving you a more edgier look. There is nothing more fun than throwing stormtroopers and wookies through glass, over cliffs or sadistically floating them in the air as they struggle for dear life. If you look at this as more a movie experience then you will be happy as it firmly ties episodes 3 & 4 together with its clever story. Granted there arent many Star wars games that have been any good, Knights of the old republic 1 & 2 were and still are the best and Lego star wars is just a given but all the other star wars games are just poop.

3 out of 5 stars looked promising but delivered little   October 2, 2008
I bought this as i am a big fan of Star Wars, also the vidoe podcasts in the run up to the game hyped up the use of serious force power which sounded very appealing. Unfortunately the game was a big let down for me. Numerous glicthes and bugs are evident throughout the game. I have had retsart my xbox a number of times due toi being caught in glitch spots or other such things. The game itself is mediocre at best. True, the force powers are very good and the ability to level up your character how you would like is enough to keep you going to completion. The game is very short, completed it within a week, probably 10 hours of play. Resale value of the game is a joke, probably becuase everyone who has bought it now realizes how bad it is.

2 out of 5 stars Wow   October 2, 2008
This is only going to be short, the graphics were amazing but the gameplay was repetitive, the boss fights were unbelievably awful you kept haveing to do the same scene over and over again, the targeting system was very bad when you tried to lock on to something and sometimes you found your self running in circles trying to get a lock and last but not least the game is not worth 40 infact I don't think I wouldv'e paid 20 for it.

3 out of 5 stars Should have been better   September 30, 2008

This should have been a great game but sadly let down by the following:

Targeting - this is automatic and basically targets anything directly in front of you. Often this is a lump of rock rather than the enemy that is currently kicking your arse!

Blocking - works fine unless you try to block mid-combat. Once you're trapped in an enemy attack it's almost impossible to break out. You are also fixed in one direction making it difficult to counter-attack enemies behind you.

Controls - there is a definate pause when trying to unleashed force powers or block. Hit the button and nothing happens. It might only be milli-seconds but it's enough to lead to button mashing when trying execute moves and suddenly a volley of force powers are released emptying your force bar. Especially annoying when up against the bosses.

All of this just make the game a bit of chore to play which is a shame because the story, graphics, sound etc are all excellent.

UPDATE - having played through twice now (and fully leveled-up) I think maybe 4 Stars would have been fairer. Although the targeting is a pain in arse the overall experience is worthy of your attention - especially if you're a Star Wars fan!
