For the Midnight Club lovers! November 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If like me you loved Midnight Club 3, you'll love this. The graphics are lovely, very crisp and clear. The music selection is good, music to suit different tastes (rock, reggae, hip hop, electro etc). You can create your own playlist which means you don't have to listen to the music you don't like. It also works with the force feedback wheel which is fun. I really like the `action' camera, it makes the driving experience feel more realistic and fun as it moves with the car rather than being static. You can choose the static camera if you prefer, or in the in car camera.
The game itself plays well. It's very fun. The sense of speed is great. As you dodge in and out of traffic. I don't find this game too hard. I started with a golf GTI 1983 which is a bit old and crappy but it's still fast enough for these early races. Starting with these cars is quite a change as in these games you usually start at least with a Lexus IS3000. But starting with an old car does give you a sense of working your way up. Can't wait to unlock the Audi R8 which looks gorgeous. The car modding is really fun; you can even do the inside. Trying to outrun the cops is enjoyable... pulling over pretending your stopping then speeding off! But when they catch you after a long chase it's a bit of a blow - it can be quite costly, especially when you earn so little from racing.
This is a fun game, with great graphics. Brilliant car modding and great driving. I like it a lot more than Juiced 2.
Could have been a triumph November 10, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I preordered Midnight Club LA, went to the web site for all the juicy pic's and car/bike lists........I awaited with abaited breath excited that this could be the game that took TDU to the next level.........and what turned up after all the hype...A PS1 game with next gen graphics. What i mean by this is that visually Midnight LA is stunning, however the game appears playability wise to be the same as the PS1 versions i.e lazy programming, as the computer AI can do just about anything in order to win, flip a car out and it will be back in seconds - you get flipped you lose the race, Police chase you but not the other racers...which when you finish the cops then take your winnings as a fine. If a game is sold on relealism then at least make it so, don't tell porkies in order to shift a few more copies then make the playability so frustratingly laughable where the players parameters to win are so slight yet the AI can continully pull rabbits out of the hat.
I do not have a problem with winning or losing as long as its fair, to me playing games are to have fun and not to be frustrated beyond belief at a good example of a poorly executed game.
To some this will be a fantasic game as the earlier versions were to me but to people that have been playing for 10 plus years through the different platforms then its the same old story with a face lift to fit the next gen consoles.
Now maybe my great disapointment is due to my own perception of what the game was going to be and not what it actually turned out to be..but i just hoped for a little more than a pretty version of Mid Club 1.
Another Rockstar Gem November 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Despite what some people are saying, this game is the best street racer ever and one of the 360s best racers. From a technical standpoint the game is rock solid, the frame rates steady, the graphics are beautiful, the draw distance is near limitless and the overall presentation is top notch. Its a very content heavy game with tons of options on and offline. Not just in terms of the car modification but just the level of personalisation in all aspects of the game.Theres online multiplayer which supports up to 16 people, with races, challenges and a cruise mode that allows total freedom across all of L.A.The game is by now quite infamous for being exeptionaly difficult, but i personaly have found no exessive difficulty that wasnt just a result of my poor modification choices.Overall this game ticks all the boxes and plenty more, Buy it now...
Excelent Game Fail to see the reason for the hate November 1, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I played this game first while visiting a friend. I'm usualy cautious about new racing games becase they are either a poor rip off of the need for speed series or they are not origional. At first I took a dislike to the game when presented with 3 bad cars to start out with.
However after about an hour or so of playing and a few tune ups later I had grown very fond of the car dubbing it the "Initial D car" this was only helped by the huge ammount of customization that is avaliable including the licence plates and weel dimensions.
I read other reviews saying how the crash system made it imposible to recover a race after the first crash. and i simply found this to be untrue. if you crash at everyother turn your likely to loose but if you keep an eye out and drive well enough you should be able to keep the other racers from escaping.People seem to look down on the crash aspect of the game but all i can tell is that they must be terrible at the game to lose on every ocasion they crash.
The pinkslip race system was very intuitive since the first attempt i made at the race resulted me losing my car. But when i returned with my "initial D" car seeing it as a make or break part of the gane i was relieved to see that the car i had lost could be won back.
Finaly the powerups. (my personal favourite Roar) never ceased to make me laugh when at the flick of a button you can send your oponent cars flying off the road into traffic.
