Another must addition to Total War Collection January 1, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I shall be pre-ordering this game regardless. On the whole the Total War series has been pretty good. The Rome Total War digressed a little, with oddball units, War Dogs, screaming women and Egyptian Scythed chariots etc, which maybe had too much emphasis placed upon them. The game is however editable (for confident users) if something bugs you that much. I have never been that much of a fan of the online gaming aspect of the game. The Campaign Strategy game is fairly good, certainly better than anything else on the market for these early era's. As with all computer games, the diffculty level does not increase intelligence, just the size and strength of the opponents armies. The artifical intelligence is one aspect I will be keen to see. I am hoping the endless naval battles are a thing of the past, chasing around the Med after 30, then 20, then 10 ships etc ad nauseam.
All in all, for fans of the series a must buy. I have noted the users comments about the distributor below, but hopefully for people like me who play the campaign game offline, should not be an issue.
I'm Worried December 23, 2008 0 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have to say I am really worried this game is not going to live up to our sky high expectations. I think the sea combat aspect of the game looks great but the land battle section - i.e formations ect look no more different from previous incarnations Rome, Medieval 2 ect graphically it looks great but I do wonder about the game play the total war engine was built for melee combat not gun powder weapons on a mass scale.... and there is some stiff competition out there from some independent games such as the new ACW Take Command game from Normsoft and Histwars Les gronards.
I will of course buy the game, one has to show loyalty to a series of games that has brought such joy, but it doesnt stop my corcerns that people could fall out of love with this game very quickly.
Welcome to the real world lads December 22, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm affraid that the internet is something that is going to be used more and more now for security purposes. I for one am glad. The money spent on games goes back to the producer. Loyal fans of the Total War genre should be proud that their money spent on this game will help develop the next in the series.
People that don't have the internet should get it, or stop buying things off of an online shop...
Empire Total war December 19, 2008 7 out of 19 found this review helpful
I'm a loyal fan of the entire Total War series and I have spent countless hours playing all the games in the serie. I was just looking forward to buying Empire Total War, I say 'was' because now I have found out that internet connection is required. I don't have internet connection for my PC at home and I don't plan to get one just to register a game.
By the way, I also believe it is illegal to force people to register a product in order to use it especially by using a media that can be a discriminant (like internet connection)
steaming December 18, 2008 5 out of 15 found this review helpful
First of, i'm writting this to address concerns about the release being handled by steam, normally i dont write reviews about unreleased games (no matter how unbelievably great they are going to be)
Steam are handling the release and some after care. Steam is composed entirely of morons of apocolyptic proportions and while im confident that everyone will "EVENTUALLY" get to play their game it will be probably be a frustrating time while Steam struggle to understand why more than 7 people are trying to authenticate a game at the same time (around the world).
But for those of you without an internet connection, steam have in the past included an option for the game to be activated by phone, which in most of their releases is jammed full of callers.
Steam arnt stupid... well they are, but not quite that stupid. You can even buy the game as a digital download from steam and get it early, if never done this and im not recomending it, because i wouldnt trust steam to fall over in the dark.
But the point is, the came will roll out, and you will be able to play it without an internet connection.
