2 out of 5 stars A bad implementation   December 5, 2008

The review "avoid avoid avoid" is spot on. This game is flawed with poor AI and also poor dice logic, I played with someone and they ended up in jail no less than 30 times and I got a double on pretty much every round. The lack of online play is the single biggest disappointment which is misleading as the packaging has Xbox Live brabding on it.
It's just about playable with friends locally although the inability to switch off the commentry is extremely annoying and slow, it's still better than getting the board out. The other mini games and variants are rubbish. So unless you're determined to own it, really don't bother...
It's a shame because on the original xbox there was a game called Monopoly Party and that was fantastic. This is a disgrace coming from EA!

1 out of 5 stars Poor.......   November 6, 2008
Sadly the AI in this game is monumentaly dumb. Even on the highest leel of expertise the computer players routinely give away monopoly over a colour group without any obvious advantage to themselves. The game I just played had one of the AI giving the key to the yellow colour group away for a station and one of the blue group - of which I owned the other two. It feels like the computer decisions are based purely on net present value calculations with little strategic intent - and not giving away a monopoly without gaining a corresponding advantage is the first thing you learn. Oh and they won't do it for you! There's no online play and as the AI is so poor you'll need a mate to come round. If so what's wrong with the real thing? Admit it... you've got a copy hidden in the house somewhere.

Don't buy this - its a poor substitute for the real thing and you'll be yelling 'Why the hell did you do that you idiot!' in frustration within a miniute or two

4 out of 5 stars Great Family Game.   November 3, 2008

Firstly, I have to disagree with the first reviewer..... yes, it would be great to be able to play this online, but it's not the bee-all-and-end-all. The game-play is brilliant..... if you don't want to hear Mr. Monopoly finish his sentences, just press Y. The new boards are great fun..... the Cheese Board has to be my favorite so far.

The Richest mode is great if you want a quick game, with the shortest one only taking half an hour to play.

And ultimately, as with any good 360 game, the achievements are achievable. Over 500 gamerpoints without even trying..... just playing the game.

Overall, it's a great family game that anyone can play, even those who are not familiar with the workings of the controller. Yes, even your gran could play it.

2 out of 5 stars Avoid, Avoid, Avoid...   November 1, 2008

I'd been looking forward to playing this game for months. It was going to be great but sadly this game is the poorest version of monopoly I've played yet.

There is no online live game play, the game does not save your settings between games (you need to re-enter your name, token and custom house rules at the start of new games), and you can't switch off the Mr Moneybags talking avatar, the screen swipe animation between players or the property auction screen. Also, the chance/community chest cards are very bland, just black text on a plain white background (Why didn't EA use the theme of the board to skin the cards or just use the traditional monopoly colours for the cards???). Unable to change these settings, new games can take hours to play.

EA are no strangers to making PC/console versions of monopoly so they should have got it right, but unfortunately they got it so wrong. Avoid this game at all costs. I only wish someone had written a review before I bought the game, warning me how rubbish it was. Now I'm stuck with a rubbish game which I'll never play again.
