Simply the Best Snowboarding Game Ever Made January 6, 2009 This has to be the most realistic snowboarding video game to date, but that doesn't mean that because it's realistic it is hard, the game is simple, but at the same time realistic enough to reward your practice, the events too have several difficulty targets, so even if you are bog standard you can still pass the lowest level, so nothing will block your progess here, this is the way a game should be, acessible and enjoyable, not tricky and frustating, Yet the realism means you can improve and improve and therefore get a much more rewarding experience from your play.
The graphics are a lifetime away from the cartooney Amped 3, you will simply be in awe of the views on offer, the crispness of the snow, the glass-like look of the ice, and the viewpoints; there is even a first person view, which can be quite exhilarating, it feels like you are on the board, although not quite as fast as it can seem when you choose an over the shoulder view, of which there are many. The mountains are simply splendid, absolutely vast and can take some time to explore and learn so you get to know where everything is, the width of the mountains is perhaps the most impressive, and the variety in the shape, deep chasms, ice caves, it's got it all.
The game boasts maps in Park City, Europe, Japan, Alaska, and a bonus map called Target Mountain, which is in the special edition, Amazon sell the Special Edition, you can unlock this as you play through the game. Each map has about 15 different events you can play and complete in from online multiplayer king of the hills to offline racing, something every snowboarding game should have.
Shaun White Snowboarding is the only Snowboarding game you need, the others seem like kidstuff compared to this, very impressive indeed.
Its alrite January 4, 2009 Its fun and addictive but could have been so much better. If they had given this game a slight RPG element to it e.g being able to enter shacks, resturants, training centres............in order to sleep, gain energy, find new challenges and level up or even shops to purchase your equipment it would be a lot more appealing. Soundtrack is good; but the graphics are pretty bad in my opinion and at some points its not much different from the ps2.
Pros: Fun, addictive gameplay. Good Soundtrack. Its realistic. Cons: Graphics are really quite bad considering its 360. When Online players cant be seen riding smoothly, they flicker back and forth. hardly a snowboarding community being that all you can do is ride and use a chair lift. Game basically seems half finished.
On the whole 6.5/10
I wouldnt get this for more than 25
Fantastic January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If I'm totally honest, I wasn't expecting too much from this game. The last snowboarding game I played was Cool Boarders on the PS1, and that was not that brilliant. When I started playing this, I was almost immediatly impressed. The gameplay feels as realistic as it could with a games controller, but it is also fairly easy to pick up basic tricks.
The game has only four pistes but these are HUGE, and I really do mean massive; the game lets you, and actually encourages you to take off the snowboard and walk around to try and find hidden areas. There is also a variety of different terrain for you to go on. You can start at the top of the mountain and board down stunning and steep slopes (and cliffs), go down a bit further and you will go over ramps, slide on rails and pretty much anything else you could do with a snowboard.
The one and only thing that lets this game down is the challenges. You can find these all over the mountain, and generally involve getting points for doing various types of tricks (hopefully) earning you money to get some better equipment. While the challenges themselves are okay, what they lack is any kind of structure; you come across one on the piste and you do it or ignore it. There is no kind of story, no kind of order you do the challenges, and not even a proper tournament of any kind.
Shaun White Snowboarding is never-the-less a fantastic game, and I suppose this is a trubute to the fantastic gameplay. Anybody that enjoys sports or even action games should enjoy this game a lot. It is highly addictive, and it's fun just to play it without the challenges. That said, as good as the game is, it could be improved. I hope thay give us a sequel!
AWESOME December 30, 2008 This is an excellent snowboarding game... no gormless rockets under your board, realistic controls and backgrounds, its brilliant... and its the most relaxing game on the 360 if you want it to be... just take the chopper to the top of the run in Alaska and take your time down the slopes... superb... makes a change from all the run-and-gun or get 10,000 points in 15 seconds games...
only for hardcore snowboarders December 26, 2008 this game would only appeal to hardcore snowboarders because of the controls. its much more complicated and takes a bit of getting used to. if your looking for a snowboarding game that you can get into and be good at almost straight away i recomend either amped 3 or shaun palmers snowboarding(ps2) because these have much easier controls. shaun white is like the snowboarding version of skate amped is like tony hawks
