1 out of 5 stars DRM & Advertising   January 8, 2009

I have bought this game but will be adding a firewall block on all the systems to prevent connection to the internet so adverts cannot be downloaded.

I am a game developer myself and I think DRM is pretty pointless the majority of the time and it tends to victimise the legitimate owner over a pirate who will have cracked it anyway. It is however, something I can live with. The fact that there will be advertising in the game is NOT acceptable under any circumstances and it is unfair to the people who want to play the game. The only time I would have changed my stance on this would have been if the game was sold at a much lower price or even released for free. Considering neither of these have been met, I don't think they have the right to advertise, hence the bad review.

I'd recommend that people take whatever measures neccessary to prevent adverts showing in game and to send complaints to the EA head office.

5 out of 5 stars The Sims and Big Brother   January 7, 2009

Nothing on earth can stop a softwear thief if he puts his mind to it. I am sure EA games know this. The most they can do is make it a bit harder to steal their game. So I am wondering why they are bothering with this DRM and why you can only install the game 3 times before you have to re-register it on line to be able to install it again. I think it is only a cover to get some murky softwear on our computers. Plus, I know it sounds very backward of me but I am not going to start again with AOL and pay a monthly fee just so I can use a game. I had AOL before my last computer died and you would not believe the fun I had trying to tell them I was no longer able to use the internet. I think it took nearly a year before it sunk in.
Anyway, call me paranoid but you've got to put your foot down If you disagree with something, or the concept of something. I am sure that this is just a foot in the door of what is to be included on a gaming disk detected or not in our future. Soon they will be recording our every choice from the cradle to the grave. A true consumer slave.
PS: I have no doubt that it will be a fabulous game because they always listen to what their fans say.

5 out of 5 stars Review of the game only!!!   January 4, 2009

I cannot wait for this game to be released! It seems as though the creators have heard my thoughts on whats missing from the Sims 2 and have taken it to the next level with the Sims 3.
I'm pleasantly surprised by the PC requirements for this game, i thought they were going to be much higher! I cant understand how some people want improvements but aren't willing to accept the fact that this may come at a spec. price?
Review the Game!! Not its requirements.

It annoys me when people rate a game or whatever before its even released!!!! How would you know what its like if its not released? Rating a game just on its DRM and specs is ridiculous.

I agree with James "Cobby" above. The game will be absolutely amazing, i'm a huge Sims fan and have all the previous versions and add ons and have been waiting for this release for so long. I can't wait to get it. Roll on next month!

Those who want to play modern, up-to-date games seriously have to accept that PCs and games evolve. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that when you buy a PC its already out of date! Modern games will always require better and faster machines to cope.

Those of you who can't or aren't prepared to upgrade your PCs so that you can play these new games are better off sticking to console games.

1 out of 5 stars Please be careful!   January 3, 2009

I came here to pre-order Sims3 when I saw it is due to be released in February. I then saw the DRM inclusion and I started reading up on this.

Now I will never play Sims 3. I am an addict with Sims. I played Sims 1 and have Sims 2 with a lot of additions and modifications. I love the concept, the game and the fun. But sadly, it stops here. The prospect of seeing billboards advertising the next president or a particular brand of washing powder puts me off totally. I don't want another person in the White House simply because he/she has the money to buy ads in Sims 3.

I want to buy a game - not rent it.

I want to play a game for fun - not being supervised and monitored.

I want to play how I want - not how the production company wants it.

I have seen some very bad and some very clever comments on the topic of how games today are marketed and I have taken an informed decision. I urge anyone else to get informed before taking a decision.

The software is yours, but the computer is mine. Respect my property.

Take your own decision after you read all the facts about a product.
