Amazon.co.uk Preview Bizarre Creations, the developer of Metropolis Street Racer for Dreamcast, makes its Xbox debut with a sequel of sorts. Project Gotham Racing is very similar to its predecessor, except with refined gameplay mechanics and vastly improved graphics. The focus of this racer is unique and centred on the "kudos" system. Players are rewarded bonus points for sustaining slides, riding on two wheels, catching air, clean driving, and passing other drivers. Chaining any of these actions together results in high-scoring combinations. So in addition to trying to finish the race first, the player must worry about style and technique to succeed in this game. The kudos system is fun and definitely makes this game stand out from the competition. Another highlight of the game is its detailed graphics. The more than 200 circuits based on London, Tokyo, San Francisco, and New York are extremely authentic. Those familiar with the areas are sure to do a double take at the numerous courses. The game's cars are also beautifully rendered and feature impressive reflection and lighting effects. Gameplay is quite diverse with quick race, arcade race, kudos challenge, time attack, and multiplayer modes. Kudos challenge alone features nine different types of gameplay that ranges from races, time trials, and obstacle courses. The only significant drawback with this game is its difficulty. Most players will find that two-thirds to three-quarters of the way through, the game becomes exceedingly difficult to the point where it's more frustrating than fun. Despite this problem, it still provides dozens of hours of entertainment for most and a challenging time for the hard core. All players will find that Project Gotham Racing is a truly distinct and beautiful racer. --Raymond M Padilla

project gothem is the best game i've played so far! the game graphics are excellent. the game has lots to offer such as quick race, arcade race, kudos challange.Kudos challange is where you have to earn kudos from skiding round corners and overtaking other racers and time attack where you can win skins for your cars(different car colours) Stunning game!!!!!!!
best driving game on xbox May 1, 2003 this game is pretty much the same to the phenommenal success of msr on the dreamcast but with better graphics and sound. but is still a worthy title to purchase on the xbox.

If you like the street racing type driving games this is not for you as it is most appauling and feel of the game poor. Graphics are good but only due to the quality of the platform.
The Best Way to Beat the London Congestion Charge March 7, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
There is something childishly satisfying about driving past Buckingham Palace at 100mph. Sideways. Which sums up one of the main attractions of Project Gotham (PG). The location graphics are superb (New York, San Fransisco, London and Tokyo) and the fun of driving around recognisable streets adds to the game's pleasure. There is an excellent range of cars and the driving experience is first-rate.But perhaps one of the game's best features is the large number of different types of race/event it offers, with many different ways to accumulate points (timed races, obstacle courses, racing against computer-controlled cars or other players, etc). Even if you haven't yet mastered winning races, you're still rewarded for number of miles driven and hours spent playing the game. Different types of event unlock new cars, new paint colours, new circuits, even new types of event. You can even put your own, real-life number plate on the cars. The game is just a pleasure from start to end, at whatever level you choose to play. Some non-realistic aspects are that tyres, etc, never wear out, and all damage is magically repaired before the next race, at no penalty to you. Some may not like that - in which case check out Sega GT instead. But if your priority is the driving experience I think it's still the best Xbox game available.
Now THAT'S what I call a driving game! February 14, 2003 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I thought that this would be something like a PS Ridge Racer game - fun, but not as rewarding as a Gran Turismo/Sega GT2002 type game. But THEN...! Wow! Searingly fast. Nice learning curve. Enjoyable handling. You don't have to worry *too* much about racing lines, just drive hard. The idea of boosting scores with kudos points (bonuses for powerslides, jumping and so on) are a touch of genius. I can drive sensibly (and pretty fast) in real life... what I can't do (and want to be able to do in the comfort and safety of my home on a games console) is hoon around in a car wrecklessly and enjoy driving dynamics Mr. Policeman would bang me up for outdoors. This is a very fun game. Recommended!
