4 out of 5 stars Handy For Backup Purposes, But It's Just Too Small   January 1, 2008
The sole purpose of me buying these Memory Unit's is one word, "Backup". I always backup my saved data because if my consoles die or go out with a bang, I always have something small around me which has the backup data, and it helps me get back into business rather than starting from scratch!

This Memory Unit is for the XBox Console. Its sole goal is to store any saved data you wish to backup and take around with you on your travels. Because of it's size though, you are quite limited to what you want to backup as certain games take quite a bit of saved data on the Memory Unit. On my XBox Console my Doom 3 game takes over 2000 Blocks of saved data. Not only that but it's Mission Pack Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil takes another 2000 Blocks of saved data as well!

Because of this reason I use the unit for games which are finished and have saved data which needs to be stored on a Memory Unit. Luckily enough, you can use this backup data on other XBox Consoles as well, but you cannot use this backup data on a XBox 360 Console, as the stick cannot fit anywhere on the console!

My Grade For The Device: 7.5/10: Great, Entertaining, Challenging

My Wish: I wish the unit were bigger in size and the ability to transfer data from one console to another!

Final Comments: Overall, if you own a few Games on the XBox and require a small device for backup purposes, then look no further than this Memory Unit. If you need something bigger though, then I think you need to get 2 or more of these!

4 out of 5 stars Great!   February 1, 2004

Why would you want one of these? Instead of taking your whole Xbox with you, just save all your games on the Memory Unit and you save your back from getting hurt.

Plus this is my favourite part, you can also take your Xbox Live account with you (if you have one). All you do is copy it from your HDD to the Memory Unit, take it to another Xbox and copy it onto the HDD! Simple!

3 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin   January 14, 2004

Well whats the point in one of these when the X-box has a hard drive? Simple take your profile round to your mates so you brag how good you are then prove it!

And that's it really...its a memeory card what more can I say? Doesn't improve graphice or games, doesn't give you any cheats, just saves games on it instead of the hard drive.

3 out of 5 stars Good Plug-and-Play units, but small save space...   April 6, 2003

"Why the hell would I need a memory card?!?! The Xbox has a hard disk!"

I've thought this one before, but the answer is simple. You can't take the hard disk with you.

At 8MB, the Xbox Official Memory Unit is larger than many other memory units for other consoles, being quadruple the Playstation memory card's size. However, this size pales in comparison with an 8 GIG hard disk. Hence the only real problem with the unit.

Saves are all this is really any good for. Developers have taken advantage of the huge Xbox storage on their replays, so you will only fit a couple of these on there.

The units are Plug-and-Play, meaning you can add and remove them without turning the Xbox off, but of course never removing them during a save. They can be named, so that your Memory Unit isn't confused with another, essential for those late night drunk sessions when you can barely see the TV, let alone play games.

And finally, no you can't put music on them. They're too small, and the Xbox has no copy option on the music saved.

Overall, they are functional, but as it turns out that function is slightly limited.
