Yager May 23, 2004 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Being new to the X-Box, I have been searching for a decent flight sim, and with Yager I am still looking for one. The main fault with the sim is the lack of true speed. One feels when one is flying in Jet mode, that the ship is crawling along like a moped. Graphics are good, likewise sounds, but with no sensation of flight the game fails before it starts.
Great game. May 20, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great game. Graphically it is splendid. Edge magazine weren't exaggerating when they labelled it 'Beautiful'. Thankfully that's not all it is. It's also a great game. Exploration of the landscape is a pleasure in itself, but the dogfights over that landscape are fabulous. The inter-cut storyline scenes are well done and do not intrude on the game play and do not suffer from the usual cheese factor. The game gets difficult after some time, but this just adds to its life. I think this game it now cut price, which gives it added value for money. As far as I know there are no better games of its type available on the X-box.
Yager is absolutely brilliant!!! December 10, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, what can I say? Yager is the best air fighting game I've ever played. The graphics are stunning, the sounds are amazing and the gameplay is fantastic! You are Magnus Tide, a freelancer who has recently acquired a new ship and is looking for work at Proteus. And what a ship. Its design is sleek and elegant, yet it can blow away endless waves of ships coming at you from all angles (if used correctly). All of the ships have a unique design so you can easily identify each one out on the field. Each of them contains meticulous detail which only adds to the reality of the game. Your ship has two modes of movement- hover mode and jet mode With hover mode you can move like a helicopter across the land, and pick off targets that would be much harder to hit if you were flying around at high speeds. But with jet mode you can speed to your destination and menouver easily in dog fights. That with all the weapons your ship can be eventually fitted out with makes your ship- the Sagitarius- a deadly opponent. But enough about the ship. The landscape is seemless with unreal detail to the water effects. All of the landscapes vary, and in a way give you an idea of the feelings in the area. In one landscape you might have bright green countryside to make it feel uplifting, but in another it might be barren, dark wasteland to feel depressing and gloomy. This could only be achieved by excellent attention to detail, which is well shown in the game. The sound effects match these kind of mood changes. All of the guns have a different sound so that you tell exactly what kind of weapon is being fired at you. Even the damage sounds are different, depending on what part of the aircraft/ship you hit. The plot isn't that hard to follow, but it gives the game a purpose and couldn't be any better set out to fit into the gameplay. The missions all contain a similar style of play, but each is different enough to make each new level as interesting as the prevoius one. The controls are quite easy to use once you get the hang of them and the AI of the enemy is amazingly realistic. The only slight downside to the game is the difficulty of some parts of the game. For the not so experienced gamer it can be very tough to complete. But this is only a very minor problem to very well designed game. A must buy for everyone who can hold a controller and use it well.

This game is spectacular. The graphics are gorgeous, the background is interesting, the ship you fly is pure unadulterated class. This is without doubt the finest flying shooter on the xbox. Thumbs up for Yager the coolest game I've played in ages.
