Good Game April 16, 2007 I have played most FPS games, Quake 4, Doom 3, Halo and the best game I ever played with respect to Duke Nukem, was Unreal (the original) Unreal 2 didnt disappoint me. The levels are well constucted and baeutiful. The weapon arnt bad but could have done with better sound effects. The enemies again were ok although the cut scenes did get a bit of a pain by the end. Never the less its a very enjoyable game... infact I thought Halo was very similiar (but very, very boring game play). Its not bottom clenching game play, but I have enjoyed playing this very much. I love to go into lots of varying themed levels id, desert, ice, swamp ect this is where Quake and Doom fail, badley. It all depends what your looking for, but dont dissmiss it because of a few bad reports... go forth and enjoy.
Rubbish, Rubbish,... RUBBISH!!!! July 29, 2004 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Being a subscriber to Xbox's online gaming service, LIVE, i bought this game with the main intention of playing it online, and if it had a good campaign mode it would simply be a bonus. However, when i put the game in and turned my xbox on, i could immediately see that thsi game was going to be a complete waste of money, due to the poor menu layout and simple lack of options when it came to playing on LIVE.For LIVE play, they have this game system called XMP, it isnt your traditional Deathmatch or CTF, it's a game type thats far too complicated to understand, never mind play. It also claims to have great vehicles for online play, this is also lies, because the vehicles have no feeling and are to hard to control with the one thumbstick. There also appears to be no players online who try to help you to play the game, most don't even talk! After being dissapointed by the multiplayer aspect of the game, I thought that i would try the single player game. Unsuprisingly, this was also a shambles. The enemies look very boring and dull, and the animation when they die is appaling, they kind of 'flop' to the ground, i've seen better animation on a mega drive game! In case you haven't noticed so far, I think that this is one of the worst games currently available, with no downloadable content despite teh amount of time its been out and nothing to give it an edge over any other game. The only added bonus is that it has a two-player co-op mode, but who in their right mind would want to play this game? Even at amazon's great price of less than 15 pounds, it is a BIG waste of money, don't buy it!
Im actually appauled! June 29, 2004 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was shocked from the second i encountered the first badly animated enemies in this game. What on earth have the developers been doing all this time! Even if this is a pc port, ud expect something to have been done, iv seen better animated megadrive games! Not only that, the weapons are described to sound good, but they just arent! none of them are particularly interesting, and they dont feel powerful enough. And even the first game had better story lines, i have never seen such effortless work gone into creating cutscences, they mite as well have been left out. I sold this game within 3 days of buying it (due to the hype), and lets be fair. without xbox live, this game would have failed miserably. And thats another thing, where is the multiplayer deathmatch? i mean the (on one console) variety, or were the developers just too lazy to put one in! I would seriously reconcider before buying this game, unless you enjoy over hyped let downs that is!
Unreal 2: The Boring May 11, 2004 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I havnt given this game a terrible score, because generally its not a bad game, however. At parts it is boring, shooting the same old aliens and soldiers can get a bit repetative and tiring. You have a fairly good selection of weapons at your disposal, the Grenade Launcher, Assault Gun, Flamethrower etc etc.... The cutscences are good, bit too monotone here and there, but still good to watch. You have bosses at the end of a level, bit like Half-Life. It tries to copy the same original features that popular fps's have, like Half-Life, RtoCW and Quake which i think might be its downfall. I mean, overall you have the ingrediants for a fine game, and i think if the creators made a bit more of "spice" in the game it could of ended up as a top seller, but i think it was all build up and no power which is why it hasnt hit people's homes as quick as it was expected to. Still a good game to own if you want a bit of trigger time and un-earthly goings on.
