Amazon.co.uk Review Want to play a first-person shooter on your console? Tired of there being no proper GoldenEye sequel? Wishing that you could play the part of a Barbary ape in the Wild West? TimeSplitters 2 is the game for you if you answered "yes" to any of these questions. When Rare made GoldenEye for the N64 in 1997 they created the best first-person shoot-'em-up the world had ever seen and, arguably, has ever seen to this day. Many of the geniuses behind the game left Rare shortly after to set-up their own company, Free Radical; their first game was the rather rushed (in time for the PS2's launch) TimeSplitters but this sequel is polished to perfection and easily one of the best games of the year. One of the main problems with the original TimeSplitters was its awful single-player mode, but this has been totally revamped for the sequel with a proper story mode, all-new time zones and weapons and absolutely mountains of unlockable hidden extras. Thankfully they've kept the wicked sense of humour from the first game, but there's also a lot more strategy for solo players this time around, including an amusing homage to GoldenEye's Arkangelsk Dam level as well as pastiches of other games and films scattered throughout the game. The real reason for TimeSplitters 2's greatness, though, is the multiplayer mode. This is GoldenEye to the nth degree, with superbly designed levels, tons of weapons and all sorts of tricks and gimmicks such as remote control gun turrets and invisibility pills. It may lack the epic scope of Halo but in multiplayer mode at least this is a lot more fun--and fun, as The Beatles never said, is all you need. --David Jenkins

Rubbish! Don't waste your time or money! February 14, 2006 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
This game is crap! The controls are hugely over-sensitive (and you can't alter this) and the graphics are rotten too - at least 5 years out of date. Gameplay is the tired old FPS formula and you get instantly bored with endless running up and down stairs to press switches etc. This one will end up on the shelf after the first 20 minutes. Dont bother with it - can't hold a candle to Halo etc.
great game January 15, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I played this first time and i thought it would be really bad, i mean my brother had borrowed it and thought it was shit but he is an emo so he thinks everythings terrible ^^. Anyway so i started playing it and the first thing i liked was virus. that's so fun i just play it on training ground (army level) and run onto the huge rock. Then when you start looking into the game more you get things like challenge mode where you unlock loads of characters, there are 100 playable characters which never makes ya get bored so it keeps you hooked. It's like one of those games where you wouldnt actually mind it fucking up so you had to do it again. sometimes i just actually re-play levels cause their so fun. This is a great multi-player game. i invite loads of freinds round and this is the only game they want to play , i dont blame them though ;). ***** five stars fun for freinds and you ESPECIALLLLY
Worth the money August 26, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Timesplitters 2 is a good game. I had read good reviews about this so I decided to buy it for 5. And in my opinion it is worth it. It certainly could be better but I don't regret the purchase. The single player whilst fairly short is entertaining and the thing I like about the campaign so much is the many different environments that you'll be gunning people down in. 1920s chicago, wild west, space station, planet x. They all feature cool weapons and that is why I like the single player. The graphics, like many other people have said, aren't great and are very cartoony, but at least the game doesn't run slow. The music adds to the atmosphere and is good. The thing I love about this game is that there is absolutely loads to do other than the campaign. You can unlock challenges, game modes, tons of characters, complete near impossible quests, achieve medals, and if you get bored of that you build your very own map. Maps can be as complex or as simple as you want. You choose the colours, the environments, weapons, how many floors there are. You can even design your own missions and challenge your friends to complete them although this is very hard to do without assistance. The multiplayer itself features around ten maps, all of which vary in environment based on the story levels. The maps are sometimes good and sometimes bad based on opinion but your own maps are the best to play on IMO. There are lots of game modes to do apart from the regular deathmatch and assault and capture the bag. Yes bag. These other game types include flame tag where you have to set others on fire, elimination, where everyone has one life, and a strange one where the person who is currently last gets loads of monkeys to help them to shoot people. The number of characters you have to choose from is immense and they are all really cool. You can be troopers, robots, zombies, or even a monkey. When you choose to play a multiplayer game you can choose your own custom weapon set or custom bot set to play against, and lots of cool rules such as one shot kills etc. The multiplayer is very hectic and is even more hectic than unreal championship because you have a lot less health on timesplitters. This is one of the reasons why it loses a star becauses it doesn't really have a good feel about it and there is no tactical element to the game. It's just run around and shoot. The other main reason why it loses a star is because of the aiming. I don't know why they made it like it is but the crosshair does all this weird stuffwhere it moves funny. The only way you can know what I'm talking about is if you actually play the game. I hated it at first but grew to strafe instead of aiming too much. If you turn the crosshair off it does it less but you can't see where you are aiming. All in all this game is great and it is jam-packed full of amazing features to try out both in single player and multipleyer, with plenty of surprises. Just watch out for the aiming. You may as well buy it, I mean, it's only 3 now so it's definitely worth it.

This is without a doubt the 1 of the best ever FPS on XBOX. Its second only to the 2 Halos. The story is great and the multiplayer is outta this world. The arcade and challlenge modes will keep you busy for years to come.

I bought this game second hand after reading positive reviews but i was sadly disappointed. Average graphics, clumsy contol system, trying to shoot something is blast away and hope you hit something, or stand and try to aim while taking incoming, but the worst thing of all is the half cocked save system, so every time you die you have to trudge tediously through the same level over and over.Maybe i've been spoiled by the excellent Halo, but to me timesplitters is over rated.
