4 out of 5 stars Pure Evil Genius   November 11, 2005

I've not played any Crash games since the days of the SNES, so I had no preconceptions of what I would be in for. I'd bought this because my girlfriend was tired of me playing nasty games full of blood and guts, and didn't expect to enjoy it at all.

I was so wrong.

The gameplay is sometimes irritating with its reliance on savepoints, but the plot and humour kept me interested. When Crash first catches up with Dr Cortex and you have to fight him for the power crystal, I laughed so hard I cried. The fight which then ensues was pure genius, though what they did may have been seen before by others. The humiliskate levels brought tears to my eyes again - this time whenever I ground a rail.

I've done my best to be deliberately vague so as not to spoil any surprises this game has in store - I enjoyed this so much I'd like others to be able to do the same.

Even if you don't buy it, go out and rent it now. You won't regret it.

3 out of 5 stars Not again...   July 14, 2005

The platform world is a strange one indeed. Personally I think they represent all that is bad about the games industry. While the graphics may have improved, every platformed I've seen in the last 5 years seems to have been a clone of the others.

This unfortunately is no different. While the move into fully 3D platform environments is a welcome change to the generic side scroller of the past, I've yet to see any game that utilises it to any great degree, this one certainly doesn't. The gameplay will be horribly familiar to anyone whoose played a previous Crash game, even moments when Crash and Cortex are paired up will remind you of previous levels in previous games.

However, there is a silver lining. While gameplay is nothing new, the addition of Cortex as a playable character and an increased attempt at plot makes this far more entertaining than previous games of the series. Cortex's voice acting is especially entertaining, and the sound and music through out the game are well done. Graphically the game is nothing special, although the FMV sequences that scatter the game are well done.

Perhaps the games main saving grace is the humour through out. From in game slap stick (anyone who has played a previous Crash game should get instant gratification from throwing Cortex off cliffs...), cut scene jokes, to frankly weird situations (especially one that occurs just before you Humiliskate with Cortex).

Overall, a reasonbly enjoyable game, if nothing new in the platform world...

3 out of 5 stars Best platformer on x-box   October 18, 2004

It is the best platform game on the x-box right now.... but that doesn't make it a great game.

The camera is poor, and the levels are confusing... too much graphical flair.

BUT, and it is a big butt (see Sir Mixalot), it's an enjoyable romp that will keep you vaguley entertained.

So, if you want a great platform game on x-box, wait.
If you want decent platform game, buy this.
