Even amongst EA's own stable of titles, Burnout is regarded by many as the best arcade racer of them all and this fourth iteration, subtitled Revenge, looks like being a solid addition to the line. It seems to have wisely realised that the best bit in any of the Burnout games is the amount of destruction you can cause as you race and that all that winning a race malarkey is almost a secondary concern. A new revenge meter tracks exactly how much damage you cause as you play skittles with traffic and try to cause as big a pile-up as possible--an activity that is encouraged even further in the new Traffic Attack mode. The actual revenge of the title though comes into play when you prang a specific rival one too many times and they start to take a personal interest in seeing your car go up in flames. Although it doesn't seem as if the graphics have changed all that much since the last game the level design has certainly become more inventive with huge multi-layer track layouts reminiscent of arcade classic Rave Racer--tearing along an overpass to fall vertically down three levels straight onto an opponent's bonnets is pretty special. Although surviving any of the game's crashes would be impossible in real-life it has become slightly more realistic in other areas with more car deformation than before and real cities, including Detroit, Rome and Tokyo. Without a doubt one of the best car games i've ever played..
Burnout Revenge is even better than Burout 3: Takedown. There's lots more
races, cars, and challenges. This game is as intense as ever and never
fails to keep you on the edge.
The gameplay here is brilliant, the tweaks to the racing mode with
vertical takedowns, shortcuts, crashbreakers and traffic checks make the
game this much more fun.
The music doesn't seem to have changed much, although i usually have my
own going in the background.
My favourite thing is being able to smash up my car and everybody elses
(basically go mad) without worying about insurance..!!

Firstly, I loved Burnout Takedown. It was awesome and it didn't leave my Xbox for months. This had to be even better I told myself and to some degree it is.
Graphic wise, it's superb. Fast, smooth and detailed. You can easily find yourself pitching over a cliff or into a wall just checking out the scenery. Blink, and you will miss it. If you wear contact lenses, wear your glasses playing this, I've lost a number of lenses after blinking following long periods of staring so as not to crash!
Which leads me nicely onto the crash mode. In the previous Burnouts, a lot has been made of these crash junctions. For some reason they seem to have been neglected here. This is my first problem with the game. You can't just play a selection of your favourite junctions, you need to pick the stage you want to play and can only pick one at a time. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from racing (and losing contact lenses) and it's not as flowing as previous games. Still, the explosions are immense and are quite satisfying.
Now Burnout really comes into it's own online. Via Xbox Live you can really test your skills. Think you're the best? You're not. Online it's a different monster completely. Hours of play will lead to success and you'll play against some seriously impressive people. Online however leads me to my second critisism. Chat. I don't want a chat screen to appear in the lobby when waiting to start a game. If a couple of kids want to text each other, fine, but why EA/Criterion couldn't make it private I'll never know. It doesn't even really ruin the game but it's a needless detraction. Still, I spend most of my time when paying this online.
Track selection is also a little disappointing. You'll learn the tracks pretty quickly but the addition of alternate routes and jumps is nice. Next time Criterion, PLEASE give us downloadable tracks, this game would be even more awesome!
To sum up, looks great, plays well, looses you lenses and give you that little known condition, Burnout Finger (long time players will understand).
Buy this. It's a must have Live game despite the niggles.

This has to be one of the best racing games of all time, graphics, cars, tracks are so good. Some cars look a little similar, but there are so many cars it doeasn't matter. It's easy to control so its fun for all ages. Horrific (in a good way) of crashes are the coolest. Don't go on it if your scared of crashing though.

Having had Burnout 3, I was a little hasty in buying this title. However, it is actually as good, if not better than Burnout 3.
The main change is that you can now bump traffic that is travelling in the same direction as you out of the way. This has made some of the Crash Junctions more intersting as you can take out several vehicles on your way to the junction without crashing, therefore inflicting more devestation.
The best part of Burnout Revenge is the way the tracks/locations are laid out. There is often more than one level to race on (high road, low road, paths, bridges, etc) allowing for vertical takedowns, also there are many shortcuts to be found.
Overall this game is excellent and one of the best fun driving games you are likely to play

This game can be summed up in just a few words.Fantastic,
must buy,
get it now,
wicked, to name but a few If you have ever played any of the other versions of Burnout, you'll love this even more, the interface is slightly different, but the tasks are the same. There is even a new takedown. Vertical takedown!! It's all good, from start to finish and it has one hell of a sound track to accompany it too. I rate it tops!
