streets of rage material!!!! August 28, 2006 I kept my faith in the Mortal Kombat series, after being dissapointed by deadly alliance and deception (story mode). I was really impressed by the storyline and the new TWO PLAYER CO-OP MODE in this game. Its totally a game for people that want to kick-ass, and solve some nice riddles along the line as they progress through the game and unlock characters. If you enjoyed old school games like streets of rage and battle axe, plus the good old MK series on the SNES or sega, you would love this game. it's a very good two player beat em up as well, and will keep your mates happy.
MK SHAOLIN MONKS October 30, 2005 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
WOW! what more can i say? This game has surpassed all other Mortal Kombat Games! Fights in the arenas and a decent Adventure mode, unlike MK Deception which the campaign mode was terribly poor. This is one of the best beat-em up, adventure, fight games i have ever played. GO AND BUY IT NOW!

I've been a fan of the Mortal Kombat series ever since that fateful day, when from a dark and festering corner of my local arcade, I heard the words... 'Finish Him!' I immediately turned around to be confronted by Sub-Zero doing a Predator impression and finishing off the hapless Johnny Cage. To a 12 year boy during the early 90's, this was gaming nirvana.Shaolin Monks captures the mood of the first 2 Mortal Kombats perfectly. If you've played either, then you'll go weak at the knees upon seeing the Living Forest stage in glorious 3D. Or knocking enemies down to their doom in the beautiful moonlit Pit stage. This game is super flowy. Controlling Lui Kang, or Kung Lao, at the beginning is an extremely satisfying experience. Both characters handle superbly. But once you get a friend involved, the game comes into its own. You'll delight in finding ways to dispatch the scum in more gruesome and over the top ways possible using tag-team type moves. The stages/backgrounds aren't just there to make you reminisce about the glory days of the series neither. Spikes, heavy hammers, twirly blades, spikey doors that slam shut, trees who need flesh, fire breathing statues, they can all be used to torment your unsuspecting foes. Infact, the stage hazards are needed to unlock alot of the hidden content in the game. Which there's alot of! Including the orginial arcade release of Mortal Kombat 2. You'll also pick up weapons along the way - two-handed axes, swords and daggers. Aswell as dual-wielding weapons such as Escrima Sticks and dual daggers. All are a joy to use. With up to 10 fatalities per character, you'll delight in unlocking them all and taking care of business, as it were. All in all though, this game will most certainly appeal to fans of the series. But to others it will be way too short. Only took me 5/6 hours to complete - all be it no way near getting all the extra goodies. If you're a Mortal Kombat fan, then you definitely NEED this game. If not, then buy it anyway when it comes down in price.
An amazing game......Streets of rage all over again October 9, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Imagine the classic megadrive game Streets of Rage brought into the new millenium and with LOTS more blood and lots more gore, and you essentially have the new Mortal Kombat game. You play as Liu Kang or Kung Lao (to start with) and you journey around earth and Outworld where u basically kick the living daylights out of anything that crosses your path until you bump into bosses like Mileena, Scorpion and Baraka. I've heard people slate the graphics on the game, saying they're not the usual Xbox standards............. how can people even begin to say it, they're amazing! The downsides to the game are..............none! Except for perhaps you could have played as all of the characters once you unlocked them as it would have increased the replay value a hundredfold, but apart fromt hat, the game is mint!
