Amazon.co.uk Review The debates have already been raging across the Internet over whether Family Guy has peaked, whether it's the funniest show on television at the moment, and whether it's better than The Simpsons, or some way behind it. Yet while most will agree that season five isn't the best the show's creators have produced, don't let that blind you to the sheer joy contained within this DVD set.The highlights of Family Guy for many, of course, are Stewie the ingenious baby and the family's dog Brian (arguably the sanest one of the lot), and both are in fine form here. And while this series again allows many of the supporting characters a space in the limelight, it's Stewie and Brian who remain responsible for some of Family Guy's funniest moments. Bluntly, there are plenty of them. Still, there's little getting away from the fact that season five lacks the spark that energised the superb first two or three series, and as a result, there are episodes here that are good where they were once great. There are, still, plenty of examples of the old magic, and it's still primarily a real pleasure that's pretty much guaranteed to raise laughs from those who don't mind their entertainment with a bit of edge. But it'll be interesting to see where Family Guy goes from here, and whether its real glory days are permanently consigned to the past. --Jon Foster

Funny - But Lacking Something November 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Family Guy created by Seth MacFarlane is an animated television show which is based in the fictional town of Quahog. The show follows the Griffin family comprising of Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg, Stewie and their dog Brian. Not to forget a whole host of neighbours that live along side them on Spooner Street.
I was very eager to watch the fifth season of Family Guy after the brilliant forth season (of which I've still to review, but I never seem to review anything in order these days.) But unfortunately I feel that this is the weakest link of the Family Guy Saga. They say things get better with age but perhaps this is Family Guys midlife crisis, where the episodes are simply not at their best. The comedy formula is a difficult one to get right, but up until Seth MacFarlane and his team have managed pretty much perfectly, so it's a shame that the fifth season fails to shine.
This box set contains fourteen episodes spread over three disks. Normally anything from Family Guy would automatically gain five stars from me, but in this case, I struggled to continue watching the episodes. The famous (or rather infamous) humour combined with the frequent flashbacks left me laughing - but not falling off my chair like I usually do with Family Guy. The episodes seem boring and to be honest also seem rather rushed and at times even repetitive.
But thankfully it's not all bad. The characters as usual are in great form, especially Stewie (my personal favourite). A few of the episodes such as "The Courtship of Stewie's Father," and "Sibling Rivalry" are fantastic and save an otherwise disappointing season.
So yes, I've been let down slightly but I still remain a dedicated fan of Family Guy and look forward to continued watching.
Family guy 5 November 3, 2008 Every single series of family guy has made me cry with laughter they are a great boxset and for the prices at which they are currently buy them up ALL series are amazing!

yes i love south Park but this is more for me it's got great humour sometimes it can be rude humour yes,but it's not crap humour like american dad..But as for this humour it's just funny comedy. So if you like the simpsons and don't give a damn about this well just watch it,much funnier than American Dad and the Simpsons.I will never say i don't find this funny like one guy put on here.
So funny June 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Each episode is individual, and they are all equally funny, some in fact funnier than others, but overall, a brilliant season and compliments the phrase "value for money".
