4 out of 5 stars Initial impressions   May 9, 2008

I've only just bought this, so thought I'd give my initial thoughts:

It is actually more comfortable than I thought, and the motorised palmrest isn't just a gimmick.

I do have a problem with the cable as mentioned in a previous review. I can see it occasionally hindering movement, unlike the cable on the G9.

The extra buttons look like they'll be great in gameplay.

One *major* point: I read reviews of this mouse on American sites, and on Amazon US. They mention the fact you can add/remove weights just like my G9. However, I can see no evidence of this at all. It may well only be on the American version. Had I known this I may not have bought it as I am very happy with the G9, but just thought I'd try another mouse to see which I prefer. The Cyborg seems just a touch too light for my taste but perhaps I'll grow used to it.

One other thing the G9 does is remember your settings so you don't have to have the software running, and can take the mouse to a different computer retianing your DPI settings. I'm not sure whether the Cyborg offers this.

Still, I'm looking forward to usinng it, and seeing which of the two mice I prefer.

2 out of 5 stars Against the flow of positive reviews !   May 9, 2008

Alas, against the flow of reviews - this is form-over-function in the extreme. Does not hit the mark at all for me. Very clunky, with a cable so thick and solid it creates drag and hinders gameplay. I'll be going back to a trusted wireless std Logitech for now.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent! Simply the best mouse currently available.   April 15, 2008

Having purchased the Saitek Cyborg Headset and Controller, and reading about all the lovely-sounding features of the Cyborg Mouse, I decided to get this instead of the Logitech G9 (because indisputably, these two are the best available). I'm extremely happy. Here's my review.

Appearance:
The mouse looks excellent. It really looks sleek, glossy and stylish. Much nicer than the Logitech G9, and not as 'overkill' as some consider the Cyborg Keyboard to be.

Ergonomics:
This mouse is extremely comfortable, and easy to hold. As you probably know, it has a motor in it that lets you adjust the length of the mouse to fit your hand. I really found this useful - it fits my hand perfectly, and doesn't ever change size accidentally, if that worries you. It is simply a joy to hold - it really feels that great.

The only possible flaw I can give this mouse comes under this category though. All of the extra buttons are positioned on the left of the mouse, accessible by the thumb. And in an odd shape, too. While this is extremely well-designed, it certainly takes getting used to. You may find it difficult to hold the mouse firmly, unsure as to where to place your thumb. You'll get used to it though!

Movement and sensitivity:
The mouse has seven feet on the bottom, two of which are very long. These feet are extremely smooth and allow the mouse to glide effortlessly across the surface. This mouse also boasts 3200 dpi accuracy, the same as the Logitech G9.

Scroll wheel:
The scroll wheel is nice. It's as you'd expect from a quality mouse - just the right amount of resistance and scrolling speed. Even better, you can adjust the resistance of the scroll wheel via a slider on the bottom of the mouse. Like it to turn quickly and easily, or require a lot of force? You can have it!

Buttons:
My favourite bit. This mouse boasts the standard three mouse buttons/wheel, an extra three side buttons, and a 4-way or 8-way (up to you) d-pad. This totals up to 10/14 buttons, or 11/15 if you count the d-pad's centre position (which is always on if you aren't pressing anything).

The mouse also lets you switch between three button layout modes, effectively bringing that total up to 30-45 buttons, all at your fingertips!

Every one of the buttons is well-placed and amazing to use. It's not like some mice where you get a button in a place you can't really reach without moving your hand into an odd position (which, in a game, can be life-threatening). It's simply superb, and all can be reached and used with ease.

These buttons can all be programmed via Saitek Programming Software, which is very easy/obvious to use. This means that buttons can perform several different key-presses for you (macros), be assigned to un-used keys for use in games that don't support so many mouse buttons, etc.! You can have as many profiles as you want setup, and can simply switch between them via a handy icon in the system tray.

Conclusion:
In my opinion, this is the best mouse currently available. I'm simply elated with this, I'm even considering buying a few more to use as spares. If you're a gamer, I'm very confident that you'll love this. If you aren't a gamer, the style may be difficult to get used to, but you may find the extra buttons coming in handy even for day-to-day tasks! I have programmed some of the buttons to do common tasks that I need to do for work, making it a little bit faster and easier.

All in all, an excellent mouse, and I'd recommend it to anyone!

3 out of 5 stars Great features....Not the best ergonomics   April 1, 2008
12 out of 12 found this review helpful

Pros:
1. This mouse is great if you are a gamer looking desperately for those extra buttons. The included SST programming software does a good job.
2. The response is quite good even at high DPI settings.
3. The ability to increase the resistance in the scroll wheel makes weapon switching in FPS games whole lot easier and controlled.
4. On the fly DPI and mouse size change makes life easy.

Cons:
1. In my opinion the mouse is not the best in ergonomics. Since the extra buttons are located quite close to the place where the thumb would normally grip the mouse, the mouse can be a bit uncomfortable at times. The thumb can get cramped. I am very finicky about comfort. Hence, this is a personal opinion and depends a lot on the way one grips the mouse. At the end of the day I feel it's a trade off between extra buttons and grip.

I would like to point out that I had a few problems while installing the drivers/software for the mouse. My saitek cyborg evo flight stick stopped working (vista) after I installed the the mouse's software. But a re-install of the flight stick drivers fixed all the problems.

Bottom Line:
Overall a great mouse for gamers. But it can be a bit uncomfortable to grip for a few.
